Deer Creek Middle School Robotics
This week in Robotics, students modified their VEX IQ Clawbots to compete in Robot Soccer — using only materials from their kit. No step-by-step instructions. Just strategy, engineering decisions, testing, and iteration.
But the real focus wasn’t just building.
It was Critical Thinking.
Deer Creek Middle School
Deer Creek Middle School is unique in Jeffco, serving the Chatfield community and surrounding areas with two academic pathways: Humanities and STEM.
Deer Creek Middle School's STEM and Humanities pathways support the competencies of the Jeffco Generations Vision, but each has a distinct focus to appeal to learners of different strengths and interests. With over 45 exploratory, elective, and support classes available to students in 6th-8th grade, Deer Creek also offers the widest selection of elective programming among middle schools in Jeffco.

2/2 HawkQuest comes to Deer Creek Middle School
Last week Deer Creek 6th grade students (and teachers!) enjoyed a visit from HawkQuest.
HawkQuest is a Colorado nonprofit organization that provides interactive educational programs featuring live birds of prey such as eagles, owls, falcons, and hawks. Its mission is to make learning engaging while promoting respect for nature, biodiversity, and environmental stewardship.
Founded in 1986 by master falconer and educator Kin Quitugua, HawkQuest focuses especially on educating youth about the vital role raptors play in ecosystems and the importance of protecting the natural world.
Thanks to Ms. Haggenjos who secured grant funding to bring this wonderful experience to Deer Creek MS for our 6th grade students

Deer Creek Middle School Mountaineers of the Month - January 2026
The Mountaineer of the Month award is our way of letting students know that we see them and that we appreciate them doing what is expected, and then doing more.
At Deer Creek Middle School we are guided by our PEAK Principles. Our Mountaineers of the Month have been nominated by teachers for exemplifying each of the PEAK behaviors. (Prepared, Engaged, Accountable, Kind and Respectful)
The nomination and voting process is taken very seriously and our staff work hard to ensure we nominate as many students as possible. The students that are selected as Mountaineer of the Month have made a strong impact on our community and have demonstrated exceptional PEAK behaviors.
Congratulations to the Mountaineers of the Month – January 2026!

Deer Creek Middle School is proud to offer the Noetic Math Contest (NLMC) to our students.
NLMC is a leading national competition for elementary and middle school students (grades 2 - 8).
Held twice a year, NLMC challenges students to think deeply, discover the beauty of mathematics, and build a strong foundation for advanced STEM learning.
We celebrated our 56 students on January 12th who took part in the Fall test.

Deer Creek Middle School 2026 has started off rather eventful! Due to pipes bursting in the ceiling in the front office we had quite the flood over winter break. A huge thanks to Mr Sudano who just happened to pop in over break to discover the issue, Mr Sturbaum and our custodial crew, as well as an awesome ServPro crew, we are getting back in shape slowly but surely.
Each New Year brings a fresh start, but this is a bit more than we bargained for!
We are open and somewhat operational today and plan to be ready to go on Wednesday to welcome students back. Just pardon our mess for a bit, it will be a few weeks until new carpet is installed and then we will be back to normal!!
Happy New Year
