Briar Hill Academy More than 35 years ago, Briar Hill Academy began as a homeschooling option for our oldest daughter as we prepared to move to the Balkans.

Four years ago, we revived it as an educational enrichment opportunity for many.

I just listened to a news report here in Colorado, one that was both stunning and somehow expected.

Many homeschool enrichment programs now accept government funds. However, with that comes government oversight. This report stated that 51 programs have applied under the new state laws, but only 3 have been approved. With days or weeks left until school begins, the other 48 are in limbo.

The report also stated that some programs are closing or scaling back because of the uncertainty of the new state regulations.

Briar Hill Academy does not and will not accept government funding. We will teach Bible and all other subjects without state or federal oversight. Former and present families will testify to the power of what we do. Honoring God leads to transformed lives.

And we have room for the 2026-27 school year!

This summer, our Bible study is working through the Psalms. It has been exciting and eye-opening to look at how people like David and the Sons of Korah were able to praise God through major, real-life difficulties.

It is also sobering to realize that, sometimes, they never report any resolution to their problems. They just continue to follow the Lord, to live their lives.

Then there is Psalm 44:22. The writer claims to be faithful, but says to God, "For your sake we face death all day long. We are considered like sheep to be slaughtered." Wow. What are we supposed to do with that?

Thankfully, Paul addresses this in the New Testament in Romans 8. He quotes that disturbing passage in verse 36, then declares, "In all this, we are more than conquerors." Not only that, he adds, "I am convinced that nothing... can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

There is no hand wringing. No, "why is God doing this to me?" there is certainty in God's love and trust in His plan, His sovereignty.

For those who are asking, "Should I really be homeschooling? I want to encourage you with a concrete reason the answer may be "yes." Homeschooling is more than just school. It can be a lifestyle, and it is a wonderful way to impress your children with your own beliefs and priorities.

Another piece of concrete evidence for this concrete reason surfaced in a news report I read today. Here in Colorado, a teacher has been fired for allegedly pressuring her students to kiss other students of the same s*x as part of regular classroom activities.

No matter where you stand on this issue, it is a warning that teachers in a regular school setting may be imparting values to your children that are in opposition to your own.

This teacher was just caught. She had been in the classroom for 20 years. It makes you wonder....

We are only 18 days away from the beginning of the 2025-26 school calendar, which will be the third year of our high school enrichment program here in Colorado.

I am excited to begin our new courses: Ancient History, Apologetics, the Gospels, Christian Literature, and Missions & Modern Christian Living.

We have room for more students, and we have both a sibling discount and discount for referring additional students.

Consider whether or not this Christ-centered, academically challenging program would make a good partner for your family.

Another great thing about attending AirVenture in Oshkosh was experiencing the history to an extent I had not expected. The first photo is two P-51 Mustangs with one of their most feared rivals from 1945, a rebuilt Messerschmidt 262 jet. These were three of literally hundreds of World War II and Korean War era planes which flew in for the show.

Then there is the modern power of the F-18 SuperHornet in the second photo. It is demonstrating how SLOW it can maintain controlled flight -- around 130 mph, indefinitely.
