Barbara is a licensed professional counselor in private practice whose style is strengths-based, collaborative, and eclectic; and whose ultimate purpose is to help facilitate emotional balance and a sense of well-being for her clients. Barbara works especially well with adults who crave long-lasting relief from the lingering effects of trauma (recent or remote past), who welcome help and guidance in the management of anxiety, and who wish to rebuild and experience healthy relationships from the inside out. Barbara is an EMDRIA certified therapist and an EMDR Consultant-in-Training. Her passion for EMDR stems from personal and professional experiences, and she delights with her clients when they move from a dysfunctional “old tape” to more functional “new tape”. Thanks to this deep awakening and awareness of healthier thoughts and beliefs about themselves, clients experience the world differently as a result of this empowering change. Barbara takes great pleasure in providing EMDR consultation to both groups, and to individual EMDR novice clinicians to help them hone their unique style when it comes to successfully utilizing their EMDR skills. In addition to her private practice and EMDR consulting, Barbara is on the Board of Directors for the Colorado Sandplay Therapy Association; is the co-host for monthly Wellness Webinars; and regularly speaks at local, state, and national events. I recently heard someone talking about our wounded and protective parts, and they used the words “buried alive.”

Something about that stayed with me.

Because maybe our parts don’t get buried because they’re broken.

Maybe they get buried because, at the time, it was the best choice we had.

Sometimes out of necessity.
Sometimes because we didn’t have better options.
Sometimes because hiding a part of ourselves was the safest way we knew to keep going.

And then, years later, we may discover a part of ourselves we thought was long gone.

A part that had been quiet for years.
A part that had learned to stay hidden.
A part that had carried things we didn’t even realize we were still carrying.

And then, somehow, underneath all that old rubble, there it is.

Still alive.

I’ve seen it in myself, and I’ve seen it in others.

The energy.
The clarity.
The aliveness.
The sense of oh…there I am.

There is something incredibly moving about realizing that a part of you you thought was lost may have simply been waiting to be found.

Buried, perhaps.
But never gone.

you heal them
by loving them.

Going to Portugal for a Summit and then a business building retreat was
a stretch for me. And, I was ready for it!

I stretched into confidence to travel alone.

I stretched and met new people from all over the world, having meaningful conversations and outrageous laughter.

I stretched into being the first speakers at the Thriving Therapist Summit co-presenting with Alejandro Castro on a topic we are both passionate about.

I stretched into vulnerability as I shifted to the business retreat led by Smith Gunnell to imagine “what’s next” for my career.

I stretched and I grew. At times, it was uncomfortable and always it was needed.

More is coming on my journey…. And I’m excited to share it with you!!

This is the year of Brave Adventures! I’m off to a great start as I wrap up co-facilitating a 3-day retreat with Feld. The topic: “ Presence + Possibilities - The Therapy Intensives Retreat.”

This was soulful work that balanced learning with playing, embodiment with merriment, and in-sight with external validation and witnessing.

Some comments I heard include:
“I am changed for the better.”
“I need more of this.”
“I feel safe and so seen.”

I am feeling SO grateful. I love what I get to do.
