The CDC’s firearm-violence webpage is once again acknowledging something gun-control advocates would rather ignore: Americans use fi****ms defensively an estimated 60,000 to 2.5 million times every year. The number is not new; the CDC previously published this range, removed it in 2022, and restored it in July 2026.

The wide range is important. Measuring defensive gun use is difficult because many incidents are never reported to police, and the most common outcome may be that no shot is fired at all. A person displays a firearm, an attacker backs off, and nobody becomes a crime statistic. The federal National Crime Victimization Survey estimates about 70,040 defensive gun uses per year when violent and property crimes are combined, while other surveys produce much higher estimates.

You cannot seriously discuss fi****ms, public safety, or self-defense while pretending that the lawful use of a gun to stop or deter violence does not exist. The return of this information to the CDC’s site is not “disinformation.” It is an acknowledgement that the available research produces a range of estimates and that leaving defensive gun use out entirely gives Americans an incomplete picture.

The state constitutional amendment that I have written would allow each state citizen who believes their rights are being infringed upon to sue the CO AG for a civil rights violation making the individual who holds that office personally and financially responsible.

New York Attorney General Letitia James is leading a coalition of 22 Democratic state attorneys general opposing the ATF’s current fi****ms-regulation reform package. The coalition submitted 13 comment letters attacking 32 proposed reforms, arguing that the changes would roll back longstanding protections against gun violence and illegal trafficking. The attorneys general represent Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, and Washington, D.C.

The ATF says its reform package is meant to streamline regulations and forms, reduce unnecessary burdens on gun owners and federally licensed dealers, clarify rules, and repeal outdated requirements. The agency has already ended its Enhanced Regulatory Enforcement Policy, adopted a new policy that places less emphasis on immaterial paperwork errors, restricted certain NICS alerts to federal fi****ms-trafficking violations, created an industry liaison role, and reversed import restrictions on non-lethal training ammunition and dual-use barrels.

James and her allies want these changes stopped. Their position is that the reforms weaken safety protections. The counterargument is that law-abiding gun owners and responsible FFLs should not be treated like criminals over technical mistakes, vague rules, or bureaucracy that goes beyond what Congress enacted. The fight is not over, because many of these proposals remain in the regulatory-comment process—but it is a clear reminder that the battle for gun rights is often fought in agency rulebooks long before it reaches the courtroom.

If you believe individual actors in the state legislature and executive branch who push legislation and policies that violate our civil rights and make the state unsafe should be personally and financially responsible for their actions, like, share, and consider donating to get a State Constitutional Amendment ballot measure on the 2027 ballot.
