🌊 Go with the flow! In science class, Mack seventh and eighth graders are examining the question, "How does streamflow affect the size or shape of a delta? Students were given a rubber tub to act as a stream table, about 25 pounds of sand, some buckets, and tubes; with those materials, they had to develop a way to test this question. Most of them found that as streamflow increases, the area of the delta grows. Hands-on projects like these are the hallmark of our Middle Years Programme in science!

Fifth and sixth graders in Ms. Muhich's class are working on their first IB Unit of Inquiry for the year. This "Who We Are" unit focuses on the central idea that "influencers can shape who we are and who we can be." While "influencer" is a common term used for social media or entertainment personalities, this UofI reaches beyond that definition. Students are exploring the following questions: What are the qualities and journeys of an influencer? How do your choices in who you listen to and aspire to emulate connect with your identity? They will be reflecting on the role of various influencers in their lives, and on their own qualities.

Last Saturday our Mackintosh Academy Board of Trustees and administration gathered on campus for a full day retreat. Everyone rolled up their sleeves and were hard at work! The team focused most of the time on strategic planning, led by board member Kelly Keena. She and other members of the Strategic Planning Committee shared survey and focus group feedback from parents, students, alumni, teachers and community members. The team worked in groups to answer the question "What will Mack look like in five years?"

Trustees and staff also revisited the last strategic plan, implemented over the past five years, and made notes of additional thoughts, goals, and ideas. The Strategic Planning committee will take this feedback and work with the Board to create a draft of the next strategic plan. The goal is to share this new plan at the Annual Meeting in early 2022.

Thank you to our dedicated Mackintosh trustees and a special shout out to our new board members! We appreciate your sharing your time and talent with our school community.
