Warriors are the ones who have to deal with the monsters of this planet. We have something deep inside us that drives us to put a stop to the predators that prey on the weak and the innocent - the muggers, thugs, gangbangers, pedophiles, bullies, etc. Warriors are the protectors; that is part of our duty.

And when we have to deal with these predators, we don't do so in a nice way. There is no "fair fight" or "fighting with honor" when it comes to taking care of these predators. They either cease their malicious actions voluntarily or we force them to do so. We make sure that not only the ones we protect walk away unharmed, but that we survive the encounter with as little injury as possible too. This means when it comes to a physical encounter, we hold nothing back, and use whatever it takes to walk away.

The process of fighting is a violent and dirty business. There is no such thing as a fair fight. During a fight, we become as vicious as the predator, or even more so. But, we must make sure that we do not become the monster. We cannot allow ourselves to let their hate, anger, or their apathy to become ours. We cannot become cold and crass.

We must remain ourselves in all situations. One of my favorite quotes from Gracian is, "The man of principle never forgets what he is, because of what others are." This applies to the warrior. We will have to deal with a lot of scumbags over the years, but we can't allow them to change us. We must continue to live by our own principles, no matter what other are. The true warrior will do everything in his power to avoid a physical confrontation, but when it becomes unavoidable, the warrior doesn't hold back. Once he knows that he has to attack, his attack will happen quickly and will devastate his enemy from the initial blow until he is sure that the treat has been neutralized.

Don't buy into the concept of a warning shot or think that if you just land one good punch, your enemy will see the error of his ways and will back off. Once things have reached the point of having to get physical, don't pull your punches until you know for sure that you enemy has no more fight in him.

This is not a game; this is not a sparring match. Real self-defense is a serious matter. Never underestimate your enemy. Be ready, do everything in your power to de-escalate the situation, but if it comes down to having to use your self-defense skills, do so with savage speed and crush your enemy until his will to fight has been destroyed.
