A Pandemic Psalm for Ferncliff – A Devotion From Jocelyn

"God leads us in making safe decisions for the sake of God's Name..."
Check out our blog for a devotion from Jocelyn Wildhack - with a bonus video of a reading of Psalm 23 around Ferncliff, featuring Lambie the Lamb!

ferncliff.org The Lord is our shepherd, We have all the toilet paper we need God gives us green fields to play disc golf in You lead us beside the calm waters of Ferncliff Lake And refresh our souls with sunshine God leads us in making safe decisions For the sake of God’s Name Even when we …

Well, this is unusual. We typically are getting ready for hundreds of summer campers; our spring school field trip program is in full swing and we have conference and retreat guest filling our meeting and lodging rooms. This year it is quiet, very quiet. We love the various people who have come and enjoyed the 1,200 acres of nature as part of our Family Field Trips and the Party Animal Zoom calls have been fun. But make no mistake it is a challenging time for Ferncliff. We are aggressively applying for grants and are so grateful for the donations that have come it, but we need support like never before. Giving Tuesday is May 5th and we will be participating in that, but you don’t have to wait to support Ferncliff. If you are reading this and you are able, we would appreciate a donation.

BJ & Bart (the sheep), Maybelle & Minnie Pearl (the donkeys), Ninja & Chuckie (the goats) lived up to their Party Animal titles yesterday. They had almost as much fun as the people on the ZOOM Calls. Of course this is a serious time but it's also a time to find a little joy. The Ferncliff Party Animals can help you with that. All we ask is a little advanced notice of the call details (contact [email protected]) and a donation to their feed fund.

We have enjoyed everyone who has stopped by Ferncliff to get a little fresh air. If you would like to get out of the house and enjoy nature in a responsible way we invite you to sign up for a Ferncliff Family Time Field Trip.

Feeling baaaaaad and burnt out from all those virtual meetings? Need to be considered the G.O.A.T. in your family chats? Want to add a jackass of another kind to your weekly staff meeting? We got you!
You can include one of our donkeys, goats, or sheep in your next Zoom call! Contact Martha at [email protected] for more information and to schedule your animal Zoom-crasher!

Party Animals are available this week Wednesday-Friday (April 29-May 1st). Your donations to this project will go toward the purchase of food for the Ferncliff animals.
Animals are:
BJ and Bart (sheep)
Maybelle and Minnie Pearl (donkeys)
Ninja and Chuckie (goats)

On Jubilee – A Devotion From Jocelyn

"In the Hebrew, 'Jubilee' implies the sound of trumpets, of blowing a long blast on a horn at the beginning of the year of Jubilee. It is a sound of release, and it introduces the new.'
Check out our blog for a weekly devotional from Jocelyn Wildhack.

ferncliff.org “You will make the 50th year holy, proclaiming freedom throughout the land to all its inhabitants. It will be a Jubilee year for you: each of you must return to your family property and to your extended family. The 50th year will be a Jubilee year for you. Do not plant, do not harvest the …

Our Decision- Summer of Jubilee

ferncliff.org I’ve always been fascinated with the concept of the ‘Year of Jubilee’ from ancient Israel. This is described as a year of rest that included the restoration of property, the freeing of slaves and relief of debts. The Israelites would dedicate this year of rest to God, acknowledging that God wo...

Another project has been completed. Our rocking chairs have new stain - we think they look beautiful!

In recent weeks we have had a number of families visit Ferncliff and take advantage of our beautiful trails and expansive 1200 acre property. We found this under our door a few days ago. It's nice to know people are enjoying Ferncliff even when we can't officially host them. (Reminder: if you come to Ferncliff to enjoy nature at its finest please be safe and practice social distancing.)

While we have this unexpected down time we have been working on a variety of projects - so that when we are given the green light to start hosting groups again we will be ready. As an example, when you arrive you might notice our front sign has been repainted.

On Grief – A Devotion From Jocelyn

"Let’s take care of our hearts – so that then, we can take care of our communities."
Check out our blog for a weekly devotional from Jocelyn Wildhack.

ferncliff.org Grief. No one looks forward to being in a time of grief. No one longs for it and hopes for it and awaits the day they can be…grieving. But man, is it healthy. We think of grief with the loss of a life. We grieve the death of a loved one, we gather round for …

At the moment the world is a little unsettled. We realize there are so many plans this spring which are being cancelled or rescheduled: Senior Prom, High School Sports Tournaments, Boy Scout Eagle Ceremonies, Weddings as well as College and High School Graduations…just to name a few. Another one of the ceremonies which is being rescheduled is the ordination for our own Jocelyn Wildhack. In fact, today was the day Jocelyn was scheduled to be ordained into the Presbyterian Church.

A Vanderbilt alumna, Jocelyn graduated from Columbia Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity (MDiv) and a Master of Arts in Practical Theology (MAPT) with a focus on Christian Education with Children and Youth. Jocelyn joined the Ferncliff staff in the fall of 2019 as the Camp and Events Coordinator and she also leads Ferncliff Forest Church, Ferncliff's nature-based worshiping community. Ferncliff is so lucky to have her on our team!

We look forward to Jocelyn’s ordination and will post that celebration here on our page when it happens. Until then, we want to acknowledge the disappointment Jocelyn must feel at this time, but we want to also recognize the many accomplishments she has made and we, along with her friends and family, look forward to celebrating her upcoming ordination soon.

We are taking this time to establish Grow Zones here at Ferncliff. This is our way of encouraging wildlife to hang out a little longer and enjoy the delicious green grass. So, if you are at Ferncliff enjoying the many trails or beautiful grounds and you see one of these signs you will know we are intentional in allowing the grass to grow.

“He is Risen! He is Risen Indeed!” – A Devotion From Jocelyn

"So let us celebrate. Let us celebrate, with joy, the surprise of God’s triumph over death, and God’s promise of new life."
Check out our blog for a weekly devotional from Jocelyn Wildhack.

ferncliff.org This weekend we celebrated Easter. The resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ. A day marked with surprises, joy, celebration, and triumph. On Easter, those early disciples found the tomb empty, because Jesus had risen to new life! “He is Risen! He is Risen Indeed!” we shout. This year, our churc...

"Early in the morning of the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb..."

“Pandemics Are Weird” – A Devotion From Jocelyn

"An empty room feels just about right this year. Pandemics are weird."
Check out our blog for a weekly devotional from Jocelyn Wildhack.

ferncliff.org Pandemics are weird. This is what I keep saying to myself as the world continues to change. As our summer camp open house goes virtual this week. As our Nature Preschool closes for the rest of the semester. As calendars are erased and major events get rescheduled. Pandemics are weird. Pandemics are....

We have had to cancel our annual open house event, Ferncliff Family Day, on April 11th. We will miss seeing families enjoying spring weather, hunting Easter eggs, and taking tours of Ferncliff!
But even a pandemic can't stop us from telling you all about Ferncliff summer camp programs! Follow our Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube pages this week for a #FerncliffVirtualOpenHouse! Perfect for families who want to learn a little bit more about what summer camp at Ferncliff is all about.

And save the date for a special Facebook Live event on Saturday April 11th at 11:00am! Jocelyn and Emily want to answer all of YOUR questions about summer camp at Ferncliff!

We are in uncharted waters and we don't have a timeline on when it will be safe to gather in groups again. But, it will happen. And when it does and you - or your company - start planning meetings and retreats, we hope you will think of Ferncliff and will contact us.
