When Ferndale Creek was reconnected as a free-flowing stream, we opened the door to a healthier, more biodiverse ecosystem. But a restored streambed needs a restored streamside, and that means roots.

Ferncliff is looking for a full-time Facility Maintenance Technician to join our team.

If you’re a hands-on problem solver who enjoys working with a team, tackling a variety of projects, and helping care for a beautiful 1,200-acre camp and conference center, we’d love to hear from you.

This position works alongside our operations and maintenance team to help keep Ferncliff’s facilities and grounds ready to welcome campers, retreat guests, preschoolers, volunteers, and others throughout the year.

Another breakthrough for Ferndale Creek! 🌿💧

This morning, the restoration team broke through the encasement, a small retaining wall just south of Stone Bridge, restoring water flow through the newly shaped creek channel.

As water began flowing over the riffles created by the newly laid rocks, our Nature Preschoolers shouted, “Look at the waterfalls!”

Conservation sometimes looks like this: children noticing the beauty of a restored stream and learning that the places they love are worth caring for.

Next up: tree planting! Native trees will help the restored stream take root by providing shade, habitat and stronger streambanks. Gifts toward tree planting are currently being matched, so your gift can go twice as far.

Ferncliff's Stream Restoration Project is taking shape, and this fall we're ready for an exciting next step - bringing the restored banks of Ferndale Creek back to life with trees.

Thanks to a generous challenge from Arkansas Interfaith Power & Light, every gift given between now and November 1 will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $24,000. 🙌

That means your gift could go twice as far - up to $48,000 for trees and native plantings along our stream.

We're planting large 15-, 30-, and 45-gallon river birch, pin oak, shagbark hickory, sweetbay magnolia, eastern redbud, and more. Trees that will stabilize the banks, reduce erosion, and provide shade and habitat for generations to come.

Wildcraft begins soon!

Throughout the school year, students explore Ferncliff, learn practical outdoor and naturalist skills, create with materials from nature, take on new challenges, and build friendships with other homeschool students.

We believe nature is essential to a life well lived. Wildcraft helps children develop a connection with the natural world that can remain with them long after the school day ends.

Backed by Ferncliff’s more than a decade of national leadership in outdoor education, Wildcraft is led by teachers specially trained in outdoor safety.

Enrollment is still open for 3rd and 4th grade students. Classes meet Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., September through May.

The stream is taking shape around the stone bridge, and for the first time, we can really begin to see what this special place will become.

Large boulders now form riffles that guide the water and help control erosion, while creating deeper pools along the stream. Depending on the season and water level, these stones will also offer places to step across the water, sit along the edge or simply stretch out and enjoy the stream.

The work is moving quickly, and the site is being transformed before our eyes. But the most wonderful part is something these photos cannot capture: you can hear the stream flowing again.

Standing by the bridge and along the water’s edge, listening to the stream mingle with the sounds of birds and wildlife, was simply lovely. 💚

🌱 **We’re looking for a Nature Preschool Residential Volunteer!**

Do you know someone who loves young children, outdoor learning and meaningful community?

This year-long service opportunity is ideal for someone taking a gap year or exploring a future in early childhood education, outdoor education, ministry or nonprofit work. The volunteer will serve alongside Ferncliff’s experienced Nature School teachers while helping children learn, play and grow outdoors.
