I am so grateful to announce that I have been selected to serve on The Reading League Arkansas Board of Directors. What a wonderful honor and opportunity to be a part of this new, up and coming organization and their commitment to advance the awareness, understanding, and use of evidence-aligned reading instruction across the state of Arkansas.
I'm encouraging YOU to join TRL AR by becoming a member and being a part of "THE CHANGE" so desperately needed in our education. We have our first event "Coffee Chat" with Kari Kurto on Adolescent Literacy, on Saturday, March 7th at 10:00 am.

The very best CHRISTmas gift …. A letter!
He is ten years old, and 8 months ago he was writing some single sounds and a few CVC words. Today he came to therapy excited because he had “wrote me a gift!”
I am so abundantly blessed to receive such a treasure.

First time ceramic painting for this guy ….. so much fun to learn something new and make a treasure for Thanksgiving!
Even when a student has a significant fine motor delay, there is great joy and a huge sense of accomplishment painting all by yourself. He made it for his MOM, which made it mean so much more!

I was given the honor of having a UAMS graduate speech-language pathology student this past semester, Chandler Webb. It was such joy to mentor, teach, observe, and help her as much as possible as she traveled through me for a short time. Chandler was easy going, incredibly flexible, kind hearted, wonderful to have around, and the kids adored her! GODspeed to your last semester of graduate school, graduation, and your first job. Just remember Chandler, when GOD opens doors, all you have to do is ACT!

Great opportunity to learn more about DLD …..
10/17/2025
Research validates that children/students with DLD can and do catch up ………… it just takes them longer! HOWEVER they must be provided with the appropriate evidence based multi-sensory instruction that explicitly teaches them language, reading, comprehension, written expression, and writing.
At The Reading League, we recognize Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) Day as an important reminder of the need to support students whose language challenges often go unnoticed.
Children with DLD are at increased risk of experiencing reading difficulties, including dyslexia. Yet research shows students with DLD and dyslexia can thrive when educators recognize these needs early and deliver evidence-aligned instruction.
When we connect research to practice, we give students with DLD, dyslexia, and other learning differences the support to thrive.

1 in 5 …..
What causes dyslexia?
Although the exact causes of dyslexia are still not completely clear, anatomical and brain imagery studies show differences in the way the brain of a person with dyslexia develops and functions. Additionally, most people with dyslexia have been found to have problems with identifying the separate speech sounds within a word and/or learning how letters represent those sounds, a key factor in their reading difficulties. Dyslexia is not due to a lack of intelligence or desire to learn. Students with dyslexia can learn successfully with appropriate teaching methods.
