A heartfelt message and lovely tribute from Village Montessori’s co-owner and lead teacher, Courtney White…

I don’t generally make posts of a personal nature, but I feel like I would be doing a disservice to myself and all who have been a part of Village to let this milestone pass without a mention.

Today I closed the doors to Village Montessori.

Village was my labor of love. I have poured my heart and soul into this little school over the last 13 years, but I haven’t done it alone. I’ve had an army of staff and parents who have worked alongside me and supported me to make this community what it has become. I’ve had friends and family hold me up through the difficult times and the children have given me the resolve to keep going. I haven’t always been perfect, but I have given it my all. Today I can walk away, knowing that I have done everything in my power to make Village a place of acceptance, kindness, community, and respect.

To the parents, thank you for trusting us with your child’s social, emotional, and academic growth. Strong friendships were formed by both children and parents. You didn’t just enroll your children, you became a part of the Village family.

To our PTO, you were the engines behind the magic. From organizing fundraisers, supporting staff, and coordinating community gatherings, your vision and energy helped fuel our little school.

And to the amazing staff, we didn’t just share a classroom; we shared a calling. The positive impact you have made on the children in your care is immeasurable. You have planted seeds of curiosity and wonder that will bloom for decades to come. Thank you for your friendship, kindness, and all the laughter we have shared, through the difficult days and the joyful ones.

Closing the doors to this little school is one of the hardest things I have ever done. I’ve grieved more than I thought possible over this decision, but I am slowly making my way toward peace. My hope is that if you were a part of our little community, that you felt the love in your time with us.

Denmark has one of the lowest bullying rates in Europe (though of course it’s not without challenges — especially in emerging in digital and social contexts), but I think empathy class deserves a spotlight 👏 Wish we had this everywhere 🫶 (My kids are too little so haven’t had this class yet - would love to hear stories in the comments about what it’s like! There’s a few articles online about it, but I’d love to hear more stories of how it works 🤍) Update — *correction*: The lovely author of The Danish Way (my source for the video) just confirmed that this requirement was stopped in 2014, so it ran for 2+ decades. Apparently many schools still do it though, which is why it’s still being discussed in reliable official comms and news as a standard practice ❤️

The Stump fairies struck this weekend! 🧚‍♂️🧚‍♀️🧚‍♂️

Hello, Village Families and Friends!

We hope everyone is doing well. We were all saddened that the tree that was along the sidewalk outside of the school died recently. We always enjoyed seeing the kids climbing the tree while the parents visited down below.

On February 3rd at 3 o’clock, the PTO is going to take up the stump of the old tree and replace it with a new tree. We are calling the removal of the tree Stumpfest, and we hope to have good camaraderie as well. You are invited to come to Stumpfest and take a stroll down memory lane if it has been a while since you’ve been at Village Montessori, and hopefully you will see some old friends. The fellowship hall at the church will be open during Stumpfest if anyone wants to stay indoors to visit and there will be crafts related to the old tree for the kids to do there too. BYOB.

We will also be planting a new tree where the old tree was located (or nearby). We would like to plant an Autumn Serviceberry tree, and we are asking for donations to help pay for its cost. If you could help us with this that would be great! If you would like to help, you can send Venmo to or drop off a check at Stumpfest (or at the school on any other day). All donations are tax deductible.

P.S. The name Stumpfest comes from an episode of Bluey by the same name, and it’s pretty funny if want a quick laugh.

P.S.S. It is not a great time of year weatherwise (as we have seen lately), but it is a great time to plant a tree. If we have to reschedule due to weather, we will let you know.
