UAEX Animal Science
The Animal Science department uses a number of activities to educate producers about cost-effective management practices. Sixty thousand households have horses.
Educational activities include county programs, field days and news articles. Approximately 30,000 farms in Arkansas produce beef cattle. The average herd size is 30 head with 80 percent of the farms having less than 50 head. About 97 percent of the beef cattle farms are family owned and operated. What a beautiful day for the 4-H Grassland Evaluation contest! Youth from Cleburne, Independence, Madison and Randolph counties gathered yesterday to identify forage plants & weeds, determine how best to grow different forages there, calculate how many cows can graze it, and how well the fields will support desirable wildlife. Winners included Independence County Senior team (1st), Randolph County Junior Team (1st), with Cleburne County having the high senior individual, and Independence County high Junior individual. Congratulations to everyone who competed, and thanks to our helpful adults. You make 4-H great!
Today is the last day to register for the Arkansas 4-H Livestock Judging Contest!
The contest will be on April 28th at Pauline Whitaker Animal Science Center in Fayetteville.

🚨University of Arkansas Youth Judging Camp July 30th-31st🚨
The University of Arkansas Equine Judging Team has an exciting opportunity for ANYONE wanting to learn more about Equine Judging from our University's best!
Our Youth Judging Camp is available to all ages as well as parents & coaches!
Participants will judge LIVE & ONLINE classes and then be critiqued by our Equine Judging coach, Rachel Scott with help from our Ranch Horse coaches Jordan Shore and Sidney Dunkel, as well as our Horse Extension Specialist Mark Russell.
The cost of this two-day camp will be $200 per person and lunch will be provided!
