PK4 was heading out to the garden but some community helpers were busy at work. The kids were so excited to watch them help our community! When they were all done, we gave them a huge, “Thank you!,” then enjoyed the beautiful garden!

Doing dangerous things carefully is the perfect opportunity for learning! Kindergarten used a hot glue gun to make plywood. We were shocked how strong it was! None of us (even me) could break our plywood! And, of course, everyone LOVED getting to use the hot glue gun. Some even told me, “I’m not allowed to do this at home.” 😬 We talked about the strength of materials, using heat energy to melt the solid glue into a liquid, and so much more. The goggles were probably overkill but they just look so cute!

3D printing club is so much fun! This crew and I are learning and growing each week. This student-designed print was our first attempt at slicing designs on our own. It’s not a perfect print but it pointed out a support issue that was an easy fix! So often it’s the missteps that lead to growth. So we like to quote Nelson Mandela. “We never lose. We either win or we learn.”

Kindergarten made particle board today! We’ve been exploring the properties of wood and looking at different kinds of wood. Last week they watched me use a saw to make sawdust. Today we added glue to the sawdust to make particle board! The activity wasn’t a huge success but it sure was a lot of fun! We talked about dry ingredients and wet ingredients, viscous and transparent fluids, fluffy and light sawdust, and so much more. Sometimes it’s more about the experience than the product and that’s ok. 😉

Butterfly season is finally back! The extreme heat delayed the migration quite a bit. I’ll be honest. I’ve been a little worried. I’m so glad they’ve found the again! Stop by the front porch of the Lower School to see all the eggs, caterpillars, and chrysalises. We have both monarchs and swallowtails!

Pre-K 4 met Cookie today! We learned all about guinea pigs including how they like to be held and why. These little animal lovers couldn’t get enough! 😊🐹🍪

2nd grade has mastered logging in, accessing Canvas, and has moved on to research for their mammal project! Next up, creating a mammal story in Scratch! This includes a lot of coding but they’re ready. These big kids have been coding with me since they were in Pre-K 3!

Pre-K explored the garden today! This is my favorite learning space on campus. We smelled the rosemary and peppermint, found milkweed beetles and shield bugs, and pulled seeds from dead flowers and planted new ones!

First Graders are on their Chromebooks! Each child selected a unique password and has been logging in all on their own. They’re really getting the hang of it now! A special thanks to the amazing Mr. Steven for all his help!
