County and state government officials visit the Master Gardeners teaching garden at the Conway Library.

Faulkner County Extension agents hosted a half-day bus tour today to show city, county and state leaders the impact of Extension programs. The group learned about a crabgrass trial at Cornerstone Ranch; visited the home of longtime 4-H leader Dorothy Yeager; visited Berkeley Farm and Farm Store; and saw an extension Get Fit program in action.

๐ŸŒณ๐Ÿ† Congratulations to Kevin Harris, County Extension Agent and Staff Chair for Jefferson County Cooperative Extension Service, on being named a 2026 Outstanding Non-formal Environmental Educator by the Arkansas Environmental Education Association!

In 17+ years with Extension, Kevin has worn a lot of hats from 4-H agent, agriculture agent, and now urban stormwater agent, but his work has always come back to connecting people with the land and water around them. From Arbor Day tree-planting programs to a stormwater workshop designed specifically for grandparents raising grandchildren, Kevin has built programming that reaches audiences across Jefferson County.

"I truly get excited about the work I get to do in my role in the Extension Service. I know that I have a great opportunity to make a positive impact with people and communities every day."

Stories like Kevin's are a reminder of why Extension work matters: one community, one classroom, one tree at a time ๐Ÿคโค๏ธ

Nearly 500 Little Rock teens just got a crash course in adulting. ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ

When Summer Youth Employment Opportunity interns showed up to "Get Real" on July 9, they didn't know what job, salary, or family size they'd be assigned. They just knew that they had to make it work.

The group moved through 12 interactive stations, choosing food plans, cars, insurance and housing, all while trying to balance a checkbook by the end. One station even threw curveballs their way, like a surprise flat tire or emergency dental bill, to teach the importance of an emergency fund. ๐Ÿ’ธ๐Ÿš˜

For 19-year-old Takora Russell, this year's career and budget assignment was easier to manage than last year's: โ€œI like the idea of it, having to budget things out and to know, โ€˜I need these things first, and then I need to worry about these other things.'
