Our AP Literature students have been bringing poetry to life!
If you’ve walked down the back hallway, you may have seen our Poetry March Madness Bracket in action. Each round, students analyze poems through activities like paraphrasing, exploring figurative language and imagery, and identifying themes, structure, and sound devices, all while voting on which poems advance.
This week, students used donated water bottles, food coloring, and glitter to create visual representations of each poem’s tone. They then wrote responses explaining their creative choices using evidence from the text.
Check out these photos to see their creativity in action!

Students were involved in every step of the process. The project began outdoors, where they learned how to identify and responsibly harvest trees for lumber. After the trees were cut into logs, students helped prepare the wood by removing bark and milling it into usable pieces.
The lumber was then stacked and dried for 4–6 months. The following school year, students planed the rough lumber into boards and carefully measured and cut each piece needed for the birdhouse.
Working together, they assembled the base, walls, and roof, turning the boards into a finished structure. Finally, each birdhouse was spray painted bright cardinal red to give it a smooth finish and help protect the wood from the weather.
Every birdhouse was inspected before completion, giving students a sense of pride in creating a product that is both functional and attractive.
