From Instant Acceptance Day, Panther Camp and the first day of classes, PSU is on the move — and we can’t wait to welcome our Panthers home.

Today, the Philander Smith University community came together for the Fall Faculty & Staff Institute, engaging in a day of learning, collaboration and strategic planning in preparation for the 2026-27 academic year.

Through conversations centered on student belonging, innovation and President Gipson’s Philander First vision, faculty and staff explored ways to strengthen the Philander experience and create an environment where every member of our community can thrive.

Student success begins with the commitment of the people who serve them every day. We’re excited about what lies ahead!

Excited to share that Brianna Hatfield, a senior English major at Philander Smith University, has been selected as a 2027 HBCU Student Fellow through the Association of Writers & Writing Programs.

Through this national fellowship, Brianna will receive faculty mentorship as she develops her creative work and will attend the 2027 AWP Conference & Bookfair in Chicago, where she will participate in a student reading and discussion panel.

Brianna also serves as president of PSU’s Sigma Tau Delta chapter and vice president of the Tau Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. We’re proud to celebrate her academic excellence, leadership and creativity.
