We're still thinking about an incredible week at The Excel Center National Conference 💚

Last week, Little Rock had the honor of welcoming Excel Center staff and leaders from across the country for powerful conversations around adult education, workforce development, and second chances.

We were grateful to hear from Arkansas Secretary for the Department of Education Jacob Oliva and Dr. Darrell Smith, and especially inspired by former graduates Melvin Williams and Laura Cartagena, who shared stories that reminded everyone in the room why this mission matters.

Every diploma earned represents barriers broken, opportunities created, and lives changed — not just for students, but for families and communities across Arkansas.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this conference so impactful. And thank YOU to every shopper and donor who helps make programs like The Excel Center possible right here in Arkansas. 💙

What an incredible week in Little Rock 💚

Thank you to The Excel Center network for giving Goodwill Arkansas the opportunity to host this year’s National Excel Center Conference for educators, staff, and leaders from across the country.

This conference was a powerful reminder that adult education changes lives. When communities come together to support second chances, the impact reaches far beyond the classroom.

A special thank you to Arkansas Secretary for the Department of Education Jacob Oliva and Dr. Darrell Smith for sharing their encouragement and passion for workforce development and adult learners across Arkansas and beyond.

One of the most moving moments came from hearing former Excel Center graduates Melvin Williams and Laura Cartagena share their personal journeys. Their stories reminded everyone in the room that it’s never too late to earn your diploma, build a new future, and create opportunities for yourself and your family.

And here’s the part that makes this mission even more meaningful: every time you shop or donate at Goodwill Arkansas, you help make programs like The Excel Center possible right here in our communities. Your support helps provide tuition-free high school diplomas, life coaches, transportation assistance, childcare support, and pathways to employment and higher education for Arkansans working toward a better future.

Thank you to everyone who attended, presented, supported, donated, and believed in this mission. Together, we are changing lives through education, training, and employment. 💙

We’re incredibly thankful to have welcomed Jacob Oliva, Arkansas Secretary for the Department of Education, to speak at the National Excel Center Conference — being held in Little Rock for the very first time. 💙

It was an honor to welcome Excel Center staff and leaders from across the country to Arkansas as we came together to celebrate the life-changing impact of adult education and the students working every day toward a brighter future.

As Arkansas’s top education leader, Secretary Oliva plays a vital role in shaping educational opportunities across the state, making his support for adult education and workforce development especially meaningful.

At Goodwill Arkansas, The Excel Center is more than a school. It’s a second chance. Through tuition-free high school diplomas, life coaches, flexible scheduling, transportation assistance, and on-site childcare, students are able to overcome barriers and build a path toward employment, higher education, and long-term success.

Nationally, The Excel Center model continues to transform lives by helping adults earn a state-recognized high school diploma while gaining the support and confidence they need to move forward. Here in Arkansas, we’re proud to serve students in both Little Rock and Springdale as part of this growing movement changing lives through education.

Thank you to Secretary Oliva, the CEO Legacy Goodwill Group, Edie, Brian, and every educator, advocate, and student helping make this mission possible.
