Those are just a few activities our Micro Summer School kiddos have engaged in over the past two weeks, putting their core academic skills to use.

We are two weeks in and have only a few weeks left. This session is flying by with cosmic speed, and we're having a blast on the ride! Learning SHOULD BE FUN, and at the very least, the not-so-fun parts should be preparation for something engaging.

Mind you, it was two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclomation that our people had to be freed by show of physical presence of Union Troops.

We are not race-baiting, and we don't believe that any race is superior. Sharing the facts is valid because the determination to keep people subservient and demean the humanity of whole groups still persists.

Just today, grown men who work alongside POC daily had a conversation about Juneteenth - not knowing that their African American co-worker was in earshot. They said things like, "They must have been a bunch of weak b******...," because people like them (white people) wouldn't have allowed anyone to keep them as slaves. Moreover, they complained about the holiday, after not knowing what it is, threatening to strike because of it.

Yea, sure they'll likely say they were jokes, but nothing about Juneteenth is a joking matter. The reason for Juneteenth is the kind of history our kids need to learn because we've left them a mess to clean up.

This probably wasn't the nice bow-tied holiday post you expected, but it's the truth. We don't tell that enough these days.
