Today, Academic Pathways and Workforce Partnerships was excited to participate in the UAMS ASG Student Resource Fair and Constitution Day celebration!

Nicholas Pettus, Program Manager for Academic Pathways and Workforce Partnerships, connected with students and shared information about educational and career pathways in health care.

Hosted by Campus Life and Student Support Services, the event gave students an opportunity to explore campus resources, learn about student organizations and volunteer opportunities, register to vote, and connect with departments from across UAMS.

Through the UAMS Pathways to Possibilities Workforce Development Program, Academic Pathways & Workforce Partnerships was proud to partner with Immerse Arkansas to deliver an engaging series of career-readiness workshops for young adults.

Participants gained practical tools through:

🤝 Networking 101: Building Strong Professional Connections
💵 Money Matters: Mastering Personal Finance Basics
💬 The Art of Professional Communication

Through interactive discussions and hands-on activities, participants learned how to build meaningful professional relationships, communicate effectively, understand workplace conflict styles, manage income, create a budget and take confident steps toward their personal and career goals.

This partnership reflects the UAMS mission to improve the health, health care and well-being of Arkansans. By bringing education into the community and helping young adults develop skills, confidence and greater stability, we are building pathways toward meaningful employment, stronger communities and brighter futures.

We are proud to highlight the work of two talented interns! During her internship with the UAMS Office of Communications and Marketing, Khi had the opportunity to write a feature story about Kyndall’s internship experience with the UAMS Sterile Processing Department.

🎓 Celebrating Achievement at Health Career University! 🎓

The UAMS Department of Academic Pathways and Workforce Partnerships proudly celebrated the accomplishments of our Preparing for the Profession: PMSS Scholars during the Health Career University Closing Ceremony on July 30, 2026.

The celebration featured inspiring remarks from Dr. Shanea Nelson and Dr. Brian Gittens, along with special reflections from PMSS Scholars Sophie Le, Jaiadhi Kumar, Asiah Bohanan, and Janet Reyes. Scholars were also recognized during the presentation of certificates by Dr. Shanea Nelson and Mr. Nick Pettus.

We are incredibly proud of our PMSS scholars and excited to see where their continued commitment to education and the health professions will take them next. Congratulations on this outstanding achievement! ❤️🎉

🎓What a Journey! Celebrating the HCOP Summer Bridge Academy Scholars 🎓

What an incredible closing ceremony for our HCOP Summer Bridge Academy! We were proud to celebrate the hard work, growth, and accomplishments of our scholars as they completed this important step in their journey toward college and future healthcare careers.
During the ceremony, scholars shared their “My HCOP Journey: From Scholar to Future Healthcare Professional” presentations and were recognized with certificates for their participation and accomplishments.

A special thank you to Dr. Bruno G. Hicks, President of Southern Arkansas University, for sharing words of encouragement and sending our scholars into their freshman year with inspiration and purpose.

A special thank you to Southern Arkansas University, our HCOP team, presenters, families, and supporters who helped make this experience meaningful for our scholars.

HCOP Scholars experienced an exciting day of hands-on learning at UAMS!

The Health Careers Opportunity Program participated in “Acute Care Essential: A Clinical Simulation for Future Health Professionals” at the UAMS Centers for Simulation Education.

Scholars engaged in clinical simulation activities, including compressions, ventilation, intubation, case studies, suturing/stop the bleed, ultrasound basics, and more. They also heard from UAMS leaders, participated in a student panel, and toured with the College of Medicine Admission Office.

This experience gave our future health professionals a meaningful look into acute care, medical education, and the skills needed to serve in healthcare. We are grateful to the UAMS Department of Anesthesiology, Centers for Simulation Education, College of Medicine Admission Office, and Academic Pathways & Workforce Partnerships for supporting this opportunity.

Congratulations to Zhyon Campbell on completing her Nursing Assistant course, accredited by the Arkansas Department of Higher Education at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, College of Technology–Crossett!

Zhyon is currently participating in the HCOP Summer Bridge Academy at SAU-Magnolia. She is a proud graduate of Lakeside High School in Lake Village, Arkansas, and will be attending the University of Arkansas–Fort Smith, where she plans to major in Diagnostic Medical Sonography.

We are so proud of Zhyon’s hard work, dedication, and commitment to pursuing a future in healthcare. Keep striving for greatness!

Congratulations to Lanee Bailey, a recent graduate of Crossett High School and current HCOP Scholar participating in the 4-Week HCOP Summer Bridge Academy at SAU-Magnolia! 🎉

Lanee has already taken major steps toward her healthcare career. She recently earned a Certificate of Proficiency in Emergency Medical Technician from South Arkansas College in El Dorado, Arkansas, and completed her Nursing Assistant course through the University of Arkansas at Monticello, College of Technology–Crossett, accredited by the Arkansas Department of Higher Education.

Lanee’s goal is to become a registered nurse, and this fall she will attend Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, Arkansas, to pursue her BSN in Nursing.

We are so proud of Lanee’s dedication, hard work, and commitment to the healthcare field. Her future is bright! 💙🩺

💰 Level Up Your Money, Level Up Your Future! 💰

Our HCOP Summer Bridge Scholars at Southern Arkansas University–Magnolia took an important step toward financial independence during an engaging Financial Literacy Workshop facilitated by Kimberly Marshall, Consultant with Unified CDC, Inc.

During Session I: "Level Up Your Money: Life After High School," scholars explored essential financial skills every recent graduate needs, including budgeting, banking, credit, and making smart financial decisions.

In Session II: "The Next Level: Earning, Saving & Building Wealth," students expanded their knowledge by learning strategies for earning income, saving intentionally, investing wisely, and building long-term financial security.

Financial literacy is a critical component of success in college and beyond. We are grateful to Kimberly Marshall and Unified CDC, Inc. for equipping our scholars with practical tools and knowledge that will empower them to make informed financial decisions throughout their educational and professional journeys.

Our 2026 HCOP Summer Bridge Academy scholars had an incredible day at UAMS exploring healthcare careers through interactive presentations, hands-on activities, and tours of the College of Pharmacy, NICU, and Department of Neuroscience.
A special thank you to Mr. Wille Hicks (College of Pharmacy), Dr. Billy Thomas (NICU), Dr. Erica Malone (Department of Neuroscience), and Dr. Dechantria D. Wallace, who led an engaging Time Management Workshop, for investing in and inspiring our future healthcare professionals.
