Every page read makes a difference 📚❤️
Have you heard about our Paws & Pages Reading Program yet? It invites children to read to the dogs and cats in our shelter, helping build literacy skills while easing the minds of shy and anxious animals - creating positive experiences for everyone involved.
Through our partnership with First Source Federal Credit Union, whose team dedicated so much time and effort to getting this program off the ground and nurturing it every step of the way, young readers are able to visit the shelter, spend time with an animal that needs a little extra love, and practice reading aloud in a judgment-free environment.
Our Saturday morning sessions remain a staple, but we've also added a new Thursday morning time slot during the school year to better accommodate homeschool families and other children who are available to visit during the week. Each child is given a lanyard, name tag, and punch card that allows them to earn pins to customize their lanyard. Books are provided, but they are also welcome to bring their favorite books from home.
Parents, it's also a great excuse to get in a little animal therapy yourself 😉 Learn more and sign up here: www.anitas-sshs.org/services/paws-and-pages-reading-program/
