National holiday in France

The French National Day is the anniversary of the Storming of the Bastille on 14 July 1789, a major event of the French Revolution, as well as the Fête de la Fédération that celebrated the unity of the French people on 14 July 1790. Celebrations are held throughout France. One that has been reported as "the oldest and largest military parade in Europe"is held on 14 July on the Champs-Élysées in Paris in front of the President of the Republic, along with other French officials and foreign guests.

200 years ago from today, Napoléon Bonaparte died.

He was the first emperor of France and one of the world's greatest military leaders. Napoleon revolutionized military organization and training, sponsored the Napoleonic Code and reorganized education.

May 1st is the equivalent of the us Labor Day but we have a little tradition that goes with it. You can read bellow the history of it.

Joyeuses Pâques (happy Easter)
Did you know that in France we don’t have the Easter bunny but the cloches de Pâques (the Easter bells) Legend has it that on Good Friday, the bells of every church in France fly to Rome. In keeping with the tradition, French church bells do not ring from Good Friday to Easter Sunday morning when the bells are said to return.

The sound of the bells on Easter Sunday morning heralds the celebration of the Resurrection, declaring that Jesus is alive.

The Easter bells (les cloches de Pâques) are believed to bring with them Easter eggs, chocolates and other treats.

Poisson d’avril (April fool day)

On 1 April, people use paper fish to play an April Fools trick. This involves sticking a paper fish onto the back of as many adults as possible. And then running away yelling “Poisson d’Avril !” (April Fish!). Yes, you better check your back if you happen to be in France on that day!
