The ruins of the Bruce Street School sit beside the East DeKalb at Bruce Street Senior Center… a quiet reminder of where it all began.

Built in the late 1930s, it was DeKalb County’s first public school for Black students — a place where education persisted, even in the face of limitation.

Today, we honor that legacy by continuing to create spaces where our students are seen, supported, and equipped to lead.
