We sure do love Mrs. O!
🍎 Celebrating our 2026-2027 Teachers of the Year ✨
Factory Shoals Elementary School Teacher of the Year Shaniqua Oglesby’s pedagogical priorities center around building strong relationships, maintaining high expectations for all learners, creating a warm and nurturing classroom environment and ensuring every child feels seen, valued, challenged and empowered to succeed.
“I believe students thrive when they are supported academically while also feeling safe, loved, and encouraged to take risks in their learning,” she said.
Oglesby earned her bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies from Georgia State University, followed by a master’s degree in special education-general curriculum and an education specialist degree in instructional technology, both from the University of West Georgia.
She began her career as a special education teacher. That foundation shaped her into the educator she is today and continues to influence how she approaches every student she teaches.
In addition to being named the FSES Teacher of the Year, she proudly serves as fifth-grade team lead, co-captain of the FSES Dynamic Dolphin Step Team and co-sponsor of the Beta Club. These leadership opportunities are points of pride for her because they allow her to positively impact students both inside and outside of the classroom.
Outside of school, she is a devoted wife and mother of two. She comes from a large, close-knit family with six brothers and three sisters, and family means everything to her. In her free time, she enjoys creating lasting memories with her loved ones — whether that’s relaxing on a beach vacation, enjoying movie nights at home, traveling, celebrating milestones or simply spending quality time together.
