Tonight, our school community came together for an unforgettable celebration at our annual Hispanic Heritage & Literacy Festival!

​Students took center stage, captivating the audience with expressive poetry recitations, meaningful literacy readings, and lively musical performances in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. Vibrant student artwork lined the cafeteria, reflecting the rich traditions, history, and creative spirit of Hispanic culture.

​The highlight of the evening was our multicultural feast, where families generously brought and shared homemade dishes representing their native countries. From authentic flavors to shared stories, the cafeteria was filled with warmth, laughter, and community spirit.

​A huge thank you to our incredible teachers, staff, and family volunteers who dedicated their time and energy to making this event a seamless success. Most importantly, thank you to our talented students and supportive families for sharing your heritage, voices, and traditions with us. A wonderful time was truly had by all!

Today we celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month at Sweetwater Elementary with a school-wide parade filled with energy, music, and vibrant colors! Students and staff proudly wore traditional attire from their native countries, display-worthy cultural clothing, and bright outfits celebrating Hispanic heritage.

​Leading up to the event, homeroom classes worked together to create beautiful flags, banners, and signs to carry along the route. Our art and music classes got creative by crafting colorful maracas and drums to keep the rhythm moving throughout the parade. Many participating students also researched and designed informative posters highlighting famous landmarks, traditions, and fun facts about their native countries to share with their peers.

​The halls and schoolyard were filled with joyful cheer, traditional music, and proud smiles. Everyone had a fantastic time celebrating unity and diversity while learning about the rich Hispanic cultures represented right here in our school community. On Friday, we held our first Gym Jam of the school year! To earn an invitation, students worked hard all nine weeks to collect 40 or more behavior tickets by following schoolwide expectations, showing kindness, and demonstrating great citizenship.

​It was a fantastic celebration! 🎉🥳 The gym was packed with energy as students spent the afternoon dancing to music, enjoying delicious snacks, and competing in games alongside their peers and teachers. We are so proud of our students for modeling top-notch behavior every day. Keep up the amazing work - we can't wait to see even more of you at the next Gym Jam!

This morning we hosted our annual Grits for Grands breakfast! It was a heart-warming morning filled with warm smiles, delicious food, and wonderful memories. A huge thank you to all the grandparents and grand-friends who joined us to make our students' morning so special, and to our amazing cafeteria staff who helped serve up the fun. Congratulations to our August 2026 Royal Knights Attendance Winners! 🎉🎉 The following homerooms had the highest attendance percentage rates for the month of August:
- Mr. Sherman's Class
- Ms. Allen's Class
- Mrs. Jones' Class
- Mr. Turner's Class

Today our school counselor Mr. Slay, our assistant principal Ms. Gilchrist, and our school social worker Mr. Terry presented these classes with a Royal Knights Attendance Certificate to display outside their classroom and they participated in a drawing for their special class prize! Congratulations, boys and girls!

Showing up every day matters! Regular attendance helps our Sweetwater Knights learn, grow, build strong relationships, and achieve their very best.

The Board of Education recognized the fifth-grade students who achieved the highest growth on the Georgia Milestones Assessment System (GMAS). The test is administered to students in grades 3 to 8 at the conclusion of the academic year, and to high school students at the end of four designated courses.
