Today, our Faculty & Staff came together in faith to celebrate Mass and begin the new school year.

During the celebration, our new Faculty & Staff received St. Benedict medals — a reminder of God's presence, our faith, and the Benedictine tradition that unites us.

This year, we embrace the theme "I Choose to Know God" (IC2KG) through knowing, loving, serving, and sharing. What a beautiful way to begin the school year — rooted in prayer, strengthened by community, and guided by faith. ❤

In partnership with the Lisle Police Department and local emergency services, training exercises will be conducted on Benet's campus Tuesday through Thursday this week, between 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

During these times, you may notice an increased presence of police, fire, and emergency vehicles on campus. This is a planned training exercise, and there is no cause for concern.

Cruz Jones has made Benet Academy history as the first student to win a national championship.

Last weekend, Cruz competed in the Amateur Esports Association National Tournament and brought home the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate championship.

Cruz’s journey began in the IHSA esports competition, which includes approximately 27,000 students from 198 schools across Illinois. After winning both the Sectional and State Championships, Cruz earned an invitation to compete against top players from across the country.

Congratulations to Cruz on an incredible season and historic run. We are excited to see what he accomplishes next year.

Tomorrow night, Wednesday, July 15, St. Isaac Jogues parish will have their monthly Holy Hour (BEHOLD) from 8:30 to 9:30 PM, where Ethan Ortiz and his family will be a special intention. The Benet community is invited to join his parish community for prayer. During the hour, there will be an opportunity for anyone who wishes to light an individual candle for Ethan and their intentions, to place it at the foot of the altar before the Blessed Sacrament.

It is with profound sadness that we share the unexpected passing of Ethan Ortiz, Class of 2025.

Ethan was a cherished member of the Benet Family, and our hearts are with his parents, Erwin Ortiz ’96 and Natasha Phillips ’96, his sister Anika ’26, his younger brother Caleb, and all who knew and loved him during this time of unimaginable loss.

We ask our entire community to keep the Ortiz family in your prayers and to entrust Ethan to the loving mercy of God.

Today marks the final day of the Baumgartner-Gilbert Stadium as we have known it for the past 65 years.

Tomorrow, construction fencing goes up as we begin an exciting new chapter for Benet Academy. Before we look ahead, we pause to give thanks.

We remember with deep gratitude Fr. Gilbert Laketek, OSB, and Mr. Ron Baumgartner, whose vision created a home for generations of Redwings. For 65 years, this field has been the backdrop for countless victories and hard-fought defeats, lifelong friendships, championship celebrations, and simple moments like sharing a grilled brat at the concession stand with family and friends.

Tens of thousands of students, alumni, parents, and supporters have made memories here that will last a lifetime.

As construction begins on the new Baumgartner-Gilbert Stadium, we do so with tremendous excitement for the future and profound gratitude for the past.

Thank you, Fr. Gilbert. Thank you, Ron. And thank you to every member of the Benet Family who has called this stadium home.
