JOURNALISTS NAMED TO ALL-STATE STAFF- Senior writers Kale Cope and Eleanor Neu have been named to the UIL All-State Journalism Staff. They are among only 211 students in all classifications 1A-6A across the state to earn this distinction, and a first for Lindsay HS.
“Being named to the All-State Staff is an incredible achievement for any journalism student but given the size of Texas and the competition among the programs in this state, this achievement is something special,” said UIL Journalism director Alyssa Boehringer.
To qualify, students must have earned 50 points by participating in UIL contests at invitational meets, district, regional and state UIL, as well as ILPC and similar journalism contests. To earn 50 points in one school year is no easy task. Kale and Eleanor earned their points by competing in the following contests last school year from November through April: Whitesboro invitational, fall and spring MRC mail-in contests, Texas Tech invitational, CenTex mail-in contest, Lindsay virtual Invitational A, Whitesboro Invitational B, as well as district and regionals.
“This recognition proves that your students are among the very best of the best. I applaud you and your students for all your hard work and leadership in your school and I am excited to see the work these young journalists do in the future,” Boehringer said. This year, both writers are competing in multiple journalism events, in hopes of reaching this goal, and more, throughout the UIL season. Kale and Eleanor are coached by Cindy Berry.
