Raised in power.

I come from a generation that was taught to pay your dues—to survive first, then unlearn, then heal.
Hardship was the teacher. Silence was common. Emotional fluency came later… if at all.

What my co-teacher and I didn’t realize years ago—when we committed to becoming the educators we needed growing up—was how radical the outcome would be.

Our children don’t know a contrasting experience.

Because we poured in from the beginning, emotional intelligence, clear communication, and healthy boundaries aren’t things they’re learning later… they’re simply who they are. There’s nothing to unlearn. No recovery phase. No rebuilding from neglect.

And as Montessorians, that’s both humbling and challenging—because meeting children where they are sometimes means giving them something we never had a reference for.

This is the work.
Raising leaders in thought and emotion.
Children who are not forged by hardship, but formed through intention.

That’s the shift.
That’s the legacy.

🌿 Reflecting on Indigenous Peoples’ Day at The Montessori Attic 🌎

Indigenous Peoples’ Day was observed this past Monday, and in true Montessori fashion—where learning is lived, not just spoken—we spent Wednesday at the Native American Museum of Long Island.

Maria Montessori believed that to understand humanity, children must be connected to real stories, real people, and the living history all around them. She taught that education is a pathway to peace, and that truth must be honored as part of the child’s moral and cultural development.

By visiting the museum, our students were able to:
• Stand on the land once cared for by Indigenous communities
• Engage with artifacts and stories that hold ancestral memory
• Deepen their understanding that history is not behind us—it lives within the land, the people, and our daily choices

At The Montessori Attic, our work in land stewardship, gardening, cultural study, and global education is directly connected to this understanding. We honor Indigenous history not as a holiday, but as a continual practice of respect, truth, and gratitude.

Today, our young gardeners rolled up their sleeves and got to work preparing the earth. 🌱 Beds were turned, soil was loosened, and the gardens are now ready for the season ahead.
