My Why!!
The year was 1993. I was such a blessed first grade teacher at Pepperell Elementary School. I was named as Teacher of the Year for PES at the end of that school year. The school year ended and grad school at JSU continued. July 6 was a day that changed my life forever.
I was leaving the JSU campus after presenting my final reviews in Dr. Zelke’s class. I was involved in a car accident. I spent weeks in ICU at Floyd on life support. One of my ICU nurses was Sue Hastings. Her son, Joseph aka Jojo was in my class that year. Sue was one of my Room Parents. In ICU there are no flowers or cards allowed. Sue placed on the wall beside my bed Jojo’s trader card and a letter he wrote to me. After weeks went by I would start to regain consciousness, usually in the dark. The light illuminated Jojo’s card and I would see it and know that I was going to be ok. Jojo’s card and God were right there with me. The card and Jojo’s letter hang today on a vision board in my closet. I view it daily.
Fast forward 33 years later, Little Miss Pepperell Pageant. Jojo!! He was there with his wife and son and family to watch his niece. My heart was filled with emotion. The same smile. The same sweet hugs! He is an awesome Daddy! Wow! He had such an impact on my life and my recovery in 1993.
He made sure that I knew that he and his family are voting on May 19 for his former first grade teacher.
Thank you Jojo to you and your family for your support, endorsement and love.

This is why I choose to serve. Generations upon generations of students and families who deserve to be represented with grace and dedication and honor. Giving back to the community that gives so much to me is my Why.

I am both humbled and honored to have my candidacy endorsed and sponsored by Jennifer & Joe Wiegand. Jennifer Broadaway Wiegand is a 1973 Graduate of Pepperell High School. She grew up on Cedartown Road in Lindale with her 5 brothers and one sister. Jennifer is retired from Kellogg’s in Rome after 30 years of dedication. Joe was born in 1946 in Pontiac, Illinois. He entered the US Army in 1966 and served 8 years with the rank of Captain. Joe also served in Vietnam. Joe worked 47 years in petroleum related industry in Texas. Jennifer and Joe met in 2019, purely by Divine design after Joe called from Texas to Lindale to inquire about how he could get copies of Jennifer’s CD that she had recorded. Jennifer’s beautiful voice and the phone call led to marriage and a blessed life together in their home in Beaver Run, Lindale.
