Happy Mother's Day!

The children worked hard making special gifts for their mamas this week. We collected leaves and flowers to make into beautiful wreaths. A big thank you to for the additional flowers!

We are so grateful for all the amazing Mothers in our lives. You make it all happen! Thank you for your endless dedication, support, patience, trust, generosity, love and so much more 💕

Spring slugs

We've really been enjoying all the new animals that have been emerging with the warmer weather, especially the slugs! The children gently hold the slugs with patience, waiting for their little "feelers" to come out. Then we return them to their cozy homes in the moist ground.

Learning cooperation through play

Early childhood is an important time for building social skills and unstructured play with peers is a great way for young children to get this practice. Playing with others teaches children empathy, cooperation, problem-solving, communication, and many other skills.

Join the Ashwood Community of Families for a parent workshop with Gina Simm this weekend! "Heart to Heart: Systems of Compassion in Classrooms & Families" will take place on Sunday, April 28 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Simm, a veteran educator and author of "Heart to Heart: A Manual for Parents and Teachers," will lead this engaging and informative event that will benefit parents, guardians, grandparents, caregivers, Ashwood community members, and teachers. Playing with color

Thursdays at Spindlewood are often Painting Day. Today we did wet on wet watercolor with red and yellow. The children are given two primary colors and practice dipping their brushes into the small jars and making the colors dance and mix across the paper.

Blueberry pancakes with Spindlewood maple syrup. Our syrup is finally ready and today we made pancakes for a special snack. The children helped mix the batter, laddle it onto the pan, and even helped do some flipping. It was difficult waiting for all the pancakes to finish cooking, but they would come over to inspect the progress every so often.

We are really lucky to have so much good food available to us in Maine. For the pancakes we used a mix of Kamut flour from and bread flour, eggs from , and frozen blueberries from Ewing Fruit Co.
