Last month, Stevenson to College (S2C) community members gathered with family, friends, and mentors for the program’s annual S2C Summer Celebration.

Like every S2C gathering, the evening began with a meal — a chance for current Scholars, Summit Scholars, and S2C Mentors to reconnect, share stories, and reflect on their journeys to and through college. The S2C Summer Celebration recognizes the determination of S2C Scholars and the tireless guidance of the volunteer mentors who help them navigate the path to and through higher education.

A highlight of the evening was hearing from special guest and Summit Scholar Christian Vazquez ’21, who shared how S2C helped shape his path and prepare him for both higher education and his professional career.

S2C alumni like Christian remain part of the S2C community for life. As proud graduates of both high school and college, they serve as an inspiration to current and future Scholars and a reminder of what’s possible with the right support and guidance.

The Alumni Association is saddened to share the passing of Stevenson staff member Brian Oberhauser on July 16, 2026.

Since 2013, Brian served as a member of the summer school team and Student Learning Programs supporting the Social Studies Division. He was also a passionate club advisor for Scholastic Bowl, Mock Trial, and Investment and Financial Literacy Club.

Earlier this spring, he supported SHS Scholastic Bowl students to a national championship in Atlanta. Outside of his professional role, Brian was known for his love of travel, World History and civics.

Registration is now open for the 2026 Alumni Homecoming Celebration!

Stevenson alumna Fiona Gaffney ’17 has been selected as the 2026 Chicago Rose and will represent Chicago at the internationally renowned Rose of Tralee International Festival in Tralee, County Kerry, Ireland, later this month.

Established in 1959, the Rose of Tralee is one of Ireland's best-known cultural festivals, celebrating the global Irish community and the enduring connections of the Irish diaspora. The festival recognizes women of Irish heritage for their leadership, accomplishments, community involvement, and their role as ambassadors for their hometowns and countries.

This year's festival will feature 32 Roses -- 19 representing counties across Ireland and 13 representing international Rose Centres. Chicago is one of five U.S. cities represented in the international field.

The festival culminates with two live, nationally televised selection nights on August 17–18, when one of the 32 participants will be named the 2026 International Rose of Tralee.
