Catch us barefoot the minute that weather warms up!
Let's get ready for National Barefoot Day on June 1!
(see comment below for more outdoor sensory activities)
Although most of our feet spend their days clad in footwear of some sort, there are benefits to (at least occasionally) going barefoot (even/especially outdoors).
- it helps them connect with nature, making them more aware of their immediate surroundings
- it activates their proprioceptive system (awareness of their body position), improving balance and coordination
- it stimulates nerve endings in their feet
- it improves posture and balance by strengthening the muscles in their feet and ankles
- it may stimulate pressure points in their feet
(That being said, before you send your child outdoors to run around barefoot, consider several factors such as the temperature of the surface they’ll be walking on, the environment and general safety.)
Get outside, let your toes be free and enjoy the feel of nature under your feet!
