The Agricultural Science class went on their second field trip to the Backyard Farmer's Garden on the UNL campus, where speaker Kim Todd taught the class about small-scale agriculture, how it works, and what it takes to care for and grow these plants.

This demonstration showed examples of what pollinators do for these plants, what chemicals are safe, how much is overlooked, and the lack of knowledge when taking care of your personally grown plants. This class was also blessed to try some organic Mexican cucamelon, as they were ripe for the picking!

The Agriculture Science class took a field trip to the Husker Produce Farm on UNL’s East Campus. The farm showed the class how vegetables can be grown, and how different environments can affect how plants grow.

During the trip, they saw different garden produce being grown and learned about the work needed to keep plants healthy and how the produce is used. Farmers have to prepare the soil, plant seeds, water the crops, control weeds, and harvest the produce when it is ready.

Our athletes and activities spent the summer building skills, building relationships, and building stronger teams!

From camps and clinics to team bonding and lots of hard work, our Warriors showed up, challenged themselves, encouraged each other, and had fun along the way.

Now it’s time to put that summer work into action! We’re ready for a great year! 🏆
