This organization serves as a resource to Nebraska PAs, provides continuing
medical education, strengthens public relations to the profession, advocates for
quality patient care, and monitors legislation; taking action on legislative issues
affecting health care and patient welfare.

Nebraska is one of 26 states that have enacted the PA Licensure Compact. 🎉

Once the compact is fully operational, eligible PAs will be able to apply for a privilege to practice in other member states instead of starting a separate license application in each one. Compact privileges are projected to become available in early 2027. In the meantime, keep your Nebraska license active and unencumbered so you are ready on day one. NAPA will share updates as the Compact Commission finalizes fees and the application process.

Save the date — NAPA Lobby Day is coming to Lincoln!

The Nebraska Academy of PAs will host state senators for a legislative breakfast on Tuesday, March 9, 2027 at Billy's Restaurant in Lincoln.

This is your chance to meet with your elected officials face to face and share the vital role PAs play in providing quality care across Nebraska. Legislators hear from a lot of people. They should be hearing from PAs.

Before heading to the Capitol, NAPA and our lobby team will offer an issue briefing at 9 AM at Zulkoski Weber's office, 725 S 14th St. You will walk in prepared and know exactly what to say.

A federal student loan update for Nebraska PA students!

A Department of Education rule would have moved PA programs out of the professional degree borrowing tier. After American Academy of Physician Associates and PAEA challenged it in federal court, the Department issued guidance recognizing PA programs as professional degree programs while the court's order stands.

Encouraging, but not final. The case is still ongoing, and students should check with their financial aid office about their own eligibility.

Meet Stephane VanderMeulen, DMSc, MA, PA-C, one of NAPA's House of Delegates Representatives.

Stephane brings a rare combination of local roots and national reach to the role. Here in Nebraska, she previously served as Co-Chair of NAPA's Legislative and Government Affairs Committee and as NAPA's formal liaison to the Nebraska Board of Medicine and Surgery, giving her a close-up view of the regulatory and legislative issues shaping PA practice across the state.

Nationally, she served as President of the Physician Assistant Education Association, representing more than 200 accredited PA programs, and testified before a U.S. Congressional subcommittee to secure Title VII funding for PA programs and students. She has also worked alongside leaders at American Academy of Physician Associates, ARC-PA, and National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) to modernize PA practice and remove administrative barriers.

Her approach to the House of Delegates starts with listening. Stephane is committed to hearing the varied viewpoints of Nebraska PAs, educators, and students so that this state stays a prominent and respected voice in national policy conversations.

Today is Women's Equality Day, marking the certification of the 19th Amendment on August 26, 1920.

The PA profession looks the way it does today because of women who pushed forward — in exam rooms, in classrooms, at the Capitol, and in leadership roles that were not always open to them. NAPA is proud of the women shaping PA practice across Nebraska, from students starting clinical rotations to PAs who have spent decades advocating for this profession.

To the women PAs of Nebraska: thank you for the care you provide and the doors you continue to open!

Meet Melissa Soester, PhD, PA-C, serving as a NAPA House of Delegates Representative.

Melissa's connection to NAPA started when she was a PA student and never let up. After graduating from the UNMC Physician Assistant Program in 2005, she spent 13 years in rural primary care and emergency medicine — experience that shaped how she thinks about workforce gaps and where PAs are needed most.

Today she's full-time faculty at UNMC while still practicing clinically, keeping one foot in the exam room and one in the classroom.

In the House of Delegates, she'll carry the Nebraska PA voice to the national table.

Today is National Patient Advocacy Day.

Advocacy doesn't only happen at the Capitol. It happens in the exam room — when a PA translates a diagnosis into plain language, fights an insurance denial, or makes sure a patient leaves with their questions actually answered.

Nebraska PAs do this work quietly, every single day.

And patients: your voice matters too. Ask the question. Ask it again if the answer isn't clear. You are your own best advocate.
