Yesterday, we hosted Prof. Mrs. Katalin Csoban and Mr. Gabor Hevessy, lecturer from the University of Debrecen in Hungary to talk about our Hospitality program and how it compared to their program. This week we celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Fayrene Hamouz. Fayrene worked with a core group of UNL leaders to start the Hospitality, Restaurant and Tourism Management program in the Fall of 2006. Fayrene frequently worked nights and weekends in her office in Leverton Hall working on ways to improve the program. Dr. Hamouz worked tirelessly to promote hospitality education throughout the state of Nebraska. She was recognized with a lifetime achievement award from the Nebraska Restaurant Association in April of 2016. Fayrene retired in 2016 from UNL and passed away on April 8th, 2026.

It is April and that means the HRTM students are at the Masters Golf Tournament. This year there are 21 students and Dr. Ajai in Augusta for the next 10 days getting an experience of a lifetime. These students will be getting first hand experience in delivering top level customer service. Nebraska College of Education and Human Sciences

Students in Club Management class this morning got to try out a silent disco. The music was only played in their headset and they could pick the music channel that they wanted to listen to. Instead of dancing, the group played a game of musical chairs. They had a lot of fun with the experience.

Professor Ammachathram and Joan attended the Grand Opening of the new Drury Hotels in Lincoln yesterday. It is always a great time to welcome a new industry partner to town.
