"Skull Bluff" along the Buffalo National River in the Arkansas Ozarks is one of the most eye-catching rock formations and sights in the state! The bluff looks just like a giant skull, with two large holes that resemble eyes carved into the rock. You can paddle right up to it by canoe or kayak and see the rock face straight from the water, which makes the shape even more clear. Many tall bluffs line this stretch of the Buffalo National River, but this one stands out and is easy to remember. Just upriver from the bluff, a wide gravel bar makes a great place to stop, relax, or set up camp for the night. If you enjoy a little adventure, camping near Skull Bluff and seeing it up close after dark is an experience you won’t forget.

In Kentucky, you can ride a dinner train through the countryside on the “My Old Kentucky Dinner Train” that leaves from Bardstown…one of Kentucky’s most charming small towns! This dinner train is one of the most memorable things you can do in the Bluegrass State. You step aboard restored railcars from the 1940s and roll along a 35-mile roundtrip through bourbon country. Along the way, you pass the Jim Beam Distillery, a historic Jesse James hideout, and the tall Jackson Hollow Trestle inside Bernheim Forest.

The ride lasts about two and a half hours, and during the trip you’re served a fresh three- or four-course meal cooked right on the train. Before boarding, you can stop by the depot’s bar and gift shop. Once seated, enjoy a bourbon or coffee as the countryside rolls by. The dinner train runs most Fridays and Saturdays throughout the winter season, making it a perfect cold-weather outing filled with good food, history, and classic train charm.

You reach this Tennessee waterfall by heading down a spiral staircase built into the massive rock face that overlooks it! Greeter Falls is reached by carefully winding your way down these metal steps, which drop deep into the gorge below. The staircase alone makes this place stand out, since most waterfalls are reached by simple dirt trails. As you descend, the views open up and the sound of rushing water grows louder with every step. Once at the bottom, you’ll find that Greeter Falls is actually two waterfalls in one spot. The upper falls slide calmly over rock and drop about 15 feet. Just below it, the lower falls plunge close to 50 feet into a narrow limestone gorge into a teal pool of water...making for one of the state's most picturesque waterfalls! High rock walls surround the area, making it feel quiet, cool, and tucked away inside Savage Gulf State Natural Area.
