A commissioned piece depicting a traditional method of encouraging natural labor to happen. It wasn’t a common practice for all expecting mothers. But it was necessary and so vital in situations for some.
She is led carefully by the one she chooses to walk beside, her husband. She is also carefully watched by her sister/midwife. Her midwife is close enough to be there when she needs her - but far enough to not invade their sacred space as they slowly prepare for their little one to make its way earth side. She encourages them to start this phase together and prays for them on the side. 🤎
(I found a few commissioned pieces in my camera roll that I completed from 2019-2020 that I haven’t shared yet. This is one of them. I’m not sure why I didn’t. Lack of words for their captions, probably but I’m sharing now)
This piece is *Sold* and has found its way home to the NMAI Smithsonian museum collections 🤎
