In August 1968 Paul Goldsmith was a 19-year-old college student from the United States traveling through Czechoslovakia. When he heard the Warsaw Pact tanks rolling through Prague, he grabbed his camera and started documenting, barely dodging the Soviet soldiers who were confiscating and destroying cameras. He was able to share the photos with the Associated Press for worldwide distribution. In 2012 NCSML exhibited his collection and many people were able to hear his account first-hand during his visit.
