Since 1999, our team of scientific experts has provided FREE online learning resources in the field Our "roots" go deep! brief readings, quizzes, videos, etc.)
The Plant and Soil Sciences eLibrary, also known as PASSeL, began as a project developed by a graduate student in 1999. Now, thanks to extensive collaborations between scientists and educators at public academic institutions, PASSeL has grown into the comprehensive website that you see today! PASSeL contains 130+ FREE lessons delivered in a variety of formats (i.e. that are available to the genera
l public. Our collaborators have developed these lessons with the understanding that public academic institutions have a mission to provide unbiased science information based on, and informed by, state-of-the-art research in their education and outreach programs. Through the distribution of these lessons, our mission is to meet the needs of all types of learners (i.e. advanced professionals, adult learners interested in continuing education, students pursuing academic degrees, the general public, etc.). We are continuously developing new learning resources in order to keep expanding the library so that instructors/outreach experts and their learners can engage in content related to plants and soils. Our lessons cover a variety of science-based topics that are relevant to the challenges of modern society, including but not limited to:
• Biotechnology
• Plant breeding
• Soil erosion control
• Plant genetics
• Herbicides
• Plant disease resistance
• Organizations dedicated to the advancement and protection of plants
• Irrigation
• Perennial plants
• Soil genesis and development
Some of our lessons are even offered in Spanish! If you have any suggestions that could help us improve the quality of our website, please don't hesitate to let us know. We welcome your feedback, which you can submit at https://passel2.unl.edu/feedback.
