Heads up, the hearing for LB170 (the tampon tax bill) is THIS FRIDAY 1/25 at 1pm in the Capitol rotunda.

I'll be stuck at work but we have some reps from the Young Dems who will be testifying and would love to have you join them. Let me know and I'll get you guys in touch!

Or if you can't make it in person you can totally submit a written testimony sharing anecdotes about/your experience with the costs of menstrual products, how necessary they are (as opposed to being taxed under the category of "luxury items"), what you could do with the money you'd save without having to pay this tax once a month, etc.

You can email, text, or message your stories to me any time these next few days (before noon on Friday) and I'll be sure they get to the right people to make your voice heard on the legislative floor!

Iiiiiiit's Lobby Day! We're prioritizing two bills today! The first is LB944 which is BAD and includes language that would illegally cut Planned Parenthood out of receiving federal Title X funds, leaving thousands of Nebraskans without necessary healthcare. Tell your senator to vote AGAINST this! The second one is LB 988 which is GOOD and changes Nebraska's definition of s*xual consent to an affirmative model, requiring "words or overt actions indicating a knowing and voluntary agreement, freely given, to engage in s*xual contact." HEY, PEOPLE WHO WENT TO THE WOMEN'S MARCH! THAT PROTEST SURE WAS A GOOD TIME, BUT NOW IT'S TIME TO GET DOWN TO BUSINESS. YOU READY TO MAKE IT HAPPEN?

Who wants to storm the state capitol in sea of matching pink shirts with me for Planned Parenthood's annual Lobby Day from 9am-3pm on February 14? Can you think of a better way to celebrate Galentine's Day than by advocating for increased access to family planning services for all our Nebraska gals (and gents and everyone in between)? Because I definitely can't. It's what St. Galentine would've wanted. Fact.

Registration is $15 for students and $25 for general admission but your fees cover the cost of your breakfast, lunch, transportation, training, t-shirt, and reference materials. IF YOU WANT TO GO BUT CANNOT PAY I CAN WORK SOMETHING OUT FOR YOU. But please don't ask me to unless you really need it. There are some scholarships available, but if we run out of those then I will personally pay your registration fee. Because I need you with us and this is absolutely worth it to me.

We are incredibly disappointed to see that Crisis Pregnancy Center in Lincoln has started their own student group here on campus called "Pregnancy Center UNL". In response to this we wanted to remind everyone that these "clinics" are not actually about helping women, but about pushing a political and religious agenda that is not above using coercion, shame, and misinformation to prey on people looking for help. I'm posting the results of a NARAL Pro-Choice America undercover investigation conducted in 10 states documenting the scare tactics, lies, and deceptions of these (often tax-payer funded) religiously motivated political organizations masquerading as legitimate medical clinics. Below in quotes is a brief summary copied and pasted from Planned Parenthood's website listing just some of the ways Crisis Pregnancy Centers attempt to mislead their clients. I've also posted a summarizing fact sheet from NARAL Pro-Choice America that highlights some of the most shocking findings from their in-depth investigation.

Please take a little time out of your day today to educate yourself and others so that you can protect yourself and others from falling victims to the trap of Crisis Pregnancy Centers. We are more than capable of making our own decisions about our own lives, but only when we are granted access to all information and options available to us. We deserve better than this.

"Deciding what to do about an unplanned pregnancy can be very difficult. It may be made even more difficult by so-called "crisis pregnancy centers." These are fake clinics run by people who are anti-abortion. They have a history of giving women wrong, biased information to scare them into not having abortions.

These centers
-may not give you complete and correct information about all your options: abortion, adoption, and parenting
-may try to frighten you with misleading films and pictures to keep you from choosing abortion
-may lie to you about the medical and emotional effects of abortion
-may tell you that you are not pregnant even if you are. This may fool you into continuing your pregnancy without knowing it. If your decision is delayed, it could make abortion more risky. It could also keep you from getting early prenatal care.
-may discourage you from using certain methods of birth control that are very safe and effective

Crisis pregnancy centers often pretend to be real health care providers —but many are not. These fake clinics often trick women with false advertising. They may make women think they will be offered unbiased information and a full range of health services.

No health care provider should pressure you into a decision about your pregnancy. All real family planning clinics will give you information about all your options.

Staff at your local Planned Parenthood health center can help. They can give you information on all of your options — abortion, adoption, and parenting. And they can talk through your options with you so that you can make the decision that is best for you."
