Swimming pool water should always be drained to a sanitary sewer.

Don't Drip and Drive!
Stormwater Pollution Automotive Facts:
-Polluted stormwater runoff is the number one water pollutant; One major contributor is automotive oil. Each year nearly 7 million quarts from our vehicles drip onto our streets
-A Washington State University aquatic toxicologist states that “Even brief exposures to motor oil can cause heart problems in developing fish.
- Immediately clean up any chemical spills with an absorbent material such as cat litter. DO NOT HOSE DOWN SPILLS.
- Check all vehicles, motorcycles, boats and other motorized devices for leaks on a regular basis.
- Perform vehicle maintenance in an area where chemicals and fluids cannot be washed into a storm drain.
- Wash vehicles at a full or self-service car wash where used water is recycled and does not generate runoff.
- Drain fluids from vehicles and parts before storing.

Clean Up Your Used Fireworks-
It’s not just an unsightly mess. Firework litter can have a real impact on sewers and streets. Make sure that you’re cleaning up the litter so it keeps the neighborhoods looking clean and doesn’t go down the sewer into receiving waters. Remember, stormwater does NOT get filtered before going into lakes and rivers. The City of Kearney is not responsible for firework litter left in the street, the home owners who set them off are.
