September is National Su***de Prevention Month

Mental health affects everyone of every age and of every race and gender. Su***de was the second leading cause of death among individuals between the ages of 10 and 34 in 2023.

Know the signs a child might be suicidal.
• Showing a sudden change in behavior.
• Isolating from friends and family.
• Experiencing eating or sleeping problems.
• Displaying agitation or mood swings.
• Showing reckless behavior.
• Dropping school performance.
• Using alcohol or drugs.
• Giving away belongings.
• Talking about feeling hopeless or trapped.
• Talking about su***de or wanting to die.
• Writing or drawing about su***de or acting
it out in play.

Take these steps if suicidal concerns
are present.
• If there is not an imminent risk to the child’s
life and they are safe with you, call or text
988 for the Su***de and Crisis Lifeline.
• If there is imminent risk to the child’s life,
call 911 or take them to the emergency
room for immediate concerns.
• Stay with your child at all times.
• Safeguard your home by eliminating lethal
means (guns/weapons, medications, etc.)
• Minimize conflict.
• Offer empathy.
• Find a therapist that’s a good match.
• Participate in the therapy.
• Communicate with school support personnel.
