This is a very special day! This student started with me at age 10 in 2003 and today achieved a true milestone as he tested for his MASTER level Black Belt! I am very proud of him and he has embraced so much of what I've taught him over the years! Congratulations to SHIHAN Victor!

Shihan's New Year's Message 2018

"The person who says it cannot be done should not interrupt the person who is doing it." - Chinese Proverb

Over my years in the Army and in civilian life as well, I have had barriers placed in front of me. I've had peers and those in charge tell me "don't bother, it can't be done" or "you won't be able to do that!" I've even had one old retired senior Sergeant (that I used to look up to) tell me that "sometimes they make mistakes" after hearing about my selection for this deployment! Hearing things like that can have devastating effects on you because Words do have Power, but there's a catch... They only have power IF YOU ALLOW THEM TOO! Do not let others dictate your path. Your opinion of your abilities is truly the only one that matters. Will you make mistakes along the way? Of course you will! That is life. Best you can do is give your best effort, learn from your mistakes, and make the best of EVERY situation you are in. Control what you can and make sure you are in the best position you can be because opportunities don't always present themselves and aren't always plentiful, so be ready for them when they do come by!

It doesn't matter where you came from. All that matters is where you are going! During this time I like to take a little time do the following: 1) Give Thanks for what I have and the opportunities I have been challenged with, 2) Do a serious self-review on my performance over the past year, then 3) Set REALISTIC Goals of what I want to achieve over the upcoming year, and then Finally 4) Make a plan, write it down, and execute it! This is how you start moving forward.

No matter where you are, 2018 will be as awesome or horrible as you make it out to be. In reality, that will be a choice you must make every single day. When you wake up, you must decide then whether it will be a good day or not. Doesn't matter what your workload is or going to be. Attitude and Outlook governs everything! Norman Vincent Peale once said, "Change your thoughts and you change your world." I am living proof of that. If I accepted what others said about me as truth, I likely would've been out of the Army by now, never became a Black Belt or owned a school, working a low level job somewhere, possibly divorced and miserable! But, no! I refused to accept the negativity of others, and I actively look to keep moving forward! Even if the progress is slow or you get a setback, make every effort to make the net result positive!

I truly hope that this upcoming year is wonderful and prosperous for you! I am proud to be your Chief Instructor and can't wait to get back from this deployment and get back in the dojo. I will always be here to help you provided you are willing to help yourself in the process as well.

Spot on. I've been saying this for years! Sport is sport, not reality.

This is a good video with excellent tips. Many times the best defense is tactical awareness. Always be aware of your surroundings in any public area. Stay Alert-Stay Alive!

I dont normally participate in stuff like this, but this is a good cause. Thank you Jack!

Day 1 of the 22-day push up Challenge.
I'm nominating, Daniel DaRocha, I know you've got this!
"Every day an average of 22 veterans commit su***de. That's 22 people every single day. Don't let your demons get the best of you. Don't be ashamed to reach out to your brothers & sisters when you need help.

The rules are simple:
* Once you are nominated your 22 days start the following day
* Every day you record yourself doing 22 push-ups, try your best to reach 22. If that means doing assisted (from your knees) push-ups or that you have to stop and take a break that's fine but try to get them all done in one video 🙂
* Every day you must nominate a different person, try to choose people you think will want to do this and/or have the ability to do it
* And finally, have fun with this. This is a simple and fun way to get the word out about a matter that more people need to be aware of. These brave men and women put their lives on the line to protect our freedoms only to get out and feel lost. It's sad that so many veterans feel that su***de is the only way out."

Shihan Tony's rant for the day.....Want to really change our failing society? Replace all Elementary and Middle school Gym classes with MARTIAL ARTS! This will effectively END School Bullying! Then when they move to the High school, change it up to focusing on the Leadership and Role model aspects of Martial Arts training and you will start seeing graduates who will bring awesome change to the community!

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, a special day to reflect and give thanks, to our family and our friends. Friends who are near; friends who are far; and yet all who are close to our hearts. Thanksgiving is a day for getting together with family and thanking God for his infinite blessings that have affected every day of our lives over the past year. Even if you don't think you had any blessings, give thanks anyway because God's blessings are not always obvious, but they are there. Many often go unseen or unrecognized till later, but I have learned from experience that they are there.

So let thanks be said, let thanks be felt, let this day remind us that every little 'thank you' truly does help.

Happy Thanksgiving Everybody!
