National Federation of the Blind of Nebraska We are the voice of Nebraska's blind; educating people about blindness, gaining civil rights, and ensuring blind children have the education they deserve.

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want; blindness is not what holds you back. Organized on January 31, 1971, the National Federation of the Blind of Nebraska is an organization devoted to helping blind individuals reach their full potential. We can help blind residents of Nebraska obtain information about jobs and other training opportunities as well as assist them in finding solutions to problems that they encounter in everyday life. We also work to insure equality for all visually impaired residents of Nebraska by working to pass legislation on the Local, State, and National Level. The NFBN is the Nebraska State affiliate of the National Federation of the Blind.

Aaron Sorkin’s groundbreaking debut tells the story of a group of military lawyers assigned to defend two Marines in Guantanamo Bay. During the course of the trial, they uncover a high-level conspiracy designed to eliminate weaker soldiers in the name of patriotism.

We’re sharing this information for anyone who may be interested in an accessible afternoon of live theater!

The Lofte Community Theatre in Manley, Nebraska, is offering an audio-described performance of A Few Good Men on Sunday, September 13. Live audio description will be provided by Bekah Jerde of Radio Talking Book Service.

Arrival: 1:30 p.m.
Cost: $30 per person, including the performance and a light meal afterward.
The play is rated R due to language.

Today, we’re excited to welcome Miranda Shreves, Marketing & Outreach Coordinator with the Nebraska Talking Book and Braille Service (TBBS), to share more about this incredible service and the resources available to Nebraskans.

Nebraska Talking Book and Braille Service provides free audiobooks, audio magazines, and braille materials to Nebraskans who have a visual or physical condition, or a reading disability that makes it difficult to use regular print.

But that’s not all! In their in-house sound studios, TBBS records and produces audiobooks and audio magazines featuring Nebraska and other regional authors, as well as works about Nebraska and the Great Plains. These recordings become part of the Nebraska Collection and are available for patrons to borrow.

The national Federation of the blind of Nebraska will be holding their quarterly board meeting on Saturday, August 29th, 2026. Starting at 9:30 AM and concluding around 2:30PM, this meeting will take place in the Dakota room at Divots Conference Center, located at 4200 West Norfolk Ave in Norfolk, Nebraska.

This location will also be the site for our national Federation of the blind of Nebraska 2027 state convention, happening from April 8th through April 11th, 2027.

Topics of discussion during this meeting will be blind equality achievement month, coast-to-coast challenge, Washington seminar, and our 2027NFBN state convention, as well as any other important organizational business.

As always, board meetings are open to our membership and a Zoom option will be available. Please contact [email protected] if you would like the zoom information.
