How it started vs how it’s going Hot Take edition: This dad’s adventure didn’t grow like this after one year because our community is full of macho outdoorsmen. No. It exploded in size for a deeper, more important reasons.

Even if you personally hate camping, your family needs a school community that prioritizes doing hard things, being uncomfortable, and inviting you into the experience too.

This past weekend, 50+ Acton dads and their kids took on a three-day camping and canoeing trip down the Little Blue River. Just 7 days after we hosted 100+ youth at our Lincoln Children’s Business Fair.

On the surface, these two events couldn’t appear to be any more different. But when you peel back the layers, you see a common foundation: productive struggle. Young people not just willing to do hard things, but actually craving them.

They desire to do meaningful things, and they are far more capable than we give them credit for.

In the same way they need to be challenged, they also need to see the adults around them challenging themselves, doing hard things, and even failing. It normalizes failing, challenging, and growth.

At Acton, we call that your challenge zone.

We invite our learners into theirs every single day.
Here’s the thing most parents don’t see coming: it’s so easy to settle into the comfort zone of a 9 to 5 followed by after-school activities and call that living. But what if your child’s school challenged you to grow too?

What if the missing ingredient in your child’s education wasn’t a better math curriculum, but a community of caring adults willing to challenge themselves and grow alongside their kids?

That’s what we’re building and the reason so many dads joined in the adventure this year!
