Husker duo bikes Whooper Highway to spotlight endangered cranes
Husker faculty member Michael Forsberg and the International Crane Foundation's Andy Caven are biking more than 2,500 miles from the Texas Gulf Coast to Canada's boreal forest, following a path known as the Whooper Highway, to raise awareness of wetlands habitat loss.

The skies over the north lawn of Hardin Hall just got a little friendlier toward bats with the addition of a bat house. John Carroll, professor of wildlife ecology and management, led a dozen students from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln Wildlife Club in building the bat house.
"With the squirrel boxes, it was pretty easy, because everybody thinks flying squirrels are cute, but bats, it might just take a little bit more education," he said. "People get used to seeing stuff like that, and then they realize it's not some kind of spy equipment, and I think that they'll go, 'Yeah, it's kind of cool seeing the bats go in and out of the house,' and I think that people will embrace it."
