Happy 1st day on the job to Luis Garcia!

Luis is a reentry program intern at the Center for People in Lincoln. The NWU criminology major will help people find resources, jobs, housing and support to be successful after release from incarceration.

“My goal is to gain real life experience in my field. This will let me see how prepared I am and where I need improvement if I want to keep doing this work,” he said.

“One reason I knocked on this organization’s door was to give back to a group that was with me [in the years before I transferred to NWU.] They not only gave me a scholarship; they gave me guidance and requested accountability on my behalf. This is a form of paying it back.”

We are happy to report that Dr. Steven Foertsch has accepted a position as Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Wuhan Journal of Cultic Studies recently!

The Wuhan Journal of Cultic Studies was started by respected New Religious Movement scholar Jim Lewis in 2021, who recently passed away. It is hosted by Wuhan University and is published semi-annually, open access, with no associated publishing costs. It aims to bridge the East/West scholarly discourse around high-tension religious groups by bringing together international research on Western esotericism, quasi-religious groups, Chinese so-called xiejiao (邪教), and field study research on new religions.
