Another awesome publication by and in the Canadian Journal of Human S*xuality 😍❤️ Authors explored mediators of s*x-linked substance use among women reporting a history of unwanted s*xual contact. Factors of s*xual excitation - including arousability, partner characteristics, and power dynamic subfactors - significantly indirectly affected associations between unwanted s*x and s*x-linked substance use. Check it out!

Our incomparable mentor - the queen of acronyms - presenting available datasets so we can plan team conference submissions 🥹😍 It is a huge benefit to grad students and undergrad RAs to have a repository of available data 🌸

Congratulations to doctoral student & WISHling Kirstin Clephane on receiving high praise from a recent commentary in Brain Behavior and Immunity (link: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0889159122003695). The commentary reflected on Clephane’s recent investigation of the impact of acute s*xual arousal on vaginal mucosal cytokine and immunoglobulin A (IgA) antibody levels in healthy women with and without a history of s*xual violence. The commentary praised their work, asserting that Clephane and co-authors presented, “important and novel findings regarding the mechanisms via which s*xual trauma may modulate vaginal immune metrics following arousal that are important for reproductive health…Overall, the findings reported herein provide a deeper understanding of the relationship between s*xual abuse and immune function, an important yet understudied dimensional of s*xual and overall health.” Wooo! Way to go, Kirstin. We celebrate your contribution to the field ❤️🌸

Check out this summer pub by the WISH Lab! In this article, Anneliis, Kirstin, and Dr. Lorenz examined how emerging adult women who reported specific sources of information as differentially important to their s*x education endorsed varying attitudes about themselves as a s*xual person. Specifically, friends, partners, religion, and school as sources of s*x education were found to predict different s*xual self-perceptions in young women. Congratulations to graduate students Katherine Bogen and Harper Jones for publishing this manuscript! The author team examined relational mediators (emotional closeness and relationship satisfaction) and trait mediators (s*xual sensation seeking and excitation) of associations between intoxication-related unwanted s*xual experiences and positive s*xual outcomes. Notably, they parsed solitary and dyadic (partnered) s*xual outcomes, to explore whether women who experienced unwanted s*xual contact reported different s*xual pleasure and desire when alone versus with a partner. Read up on their work at the Journal of S*x Research or email Katherine, Harper, or Dr. Lorenz directly for a copy of the manuscript. 🌸

Woo! A new pub from our brilliant grad student, Kirstin Clephane, and a crew of fabulous collaborators. This article interrogates the relationship between salivary CRP and women’s s*xual desire. Check it out over at the Journal of S*xual Medicine or reach out to Kirstin and Dr. Lorenz for a copy!

Congratulations to the wonderful Dr. Lorenz for her feature on the S*x & Psychology Podcast with Justin Lehmiller, PhD. This episode addresses the (misogynistic) myth of the “hormonal woman” ✨ Find it across streaming services! Feel free to reach out with questions for Dr. Lorenz here or via Twitter ().

The lab that wears eye masks together stays together (and also encourages collective gentleness and self-care, even during meetings). So grateful to share space & to learn from all my brilliant WISHlings, including our fearless leader Dr. Lorenz 💙💙💙

Wow! Congratulations to our phenomenal grad student Kirstin Clephane and illustrious PI Dr. Tierney Lorenz on their new paper in Current S*xual Health Reports. This manuscript examines the influence of hormones on postpartum s*xuality through mental, physical, and social mechanisms! You’ll learn about Estrogens, Progesterone, DHEA, Cortisol, Testosterone, Oxytocin, and Inflammation/Inflammatory Cytokines. Head over to the Topical Collection on Female S*xual Dysfunction and Disorders at Springer CHSR to check out this (very cool & comprehensive) work. ✨☺️

Congratulations to and on their presentation at the Rural Drug Addiction Research Center annual symposium this morning! Their presentation highlighted s*xual wellness and substance use outcomes related to experiences of “stealthing” (i.e. nonconsensual condom removal). *xualhealth
