'Nebraska Behind Bars' wins Kennedy journalism award
A University of Nebraska–Lincoln student project that investigated the overcrowding, understaffing and other multilayered issues confronting Nebraska’s prison system took home the College Journalism Award at the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Book and Journalism Awards on May 20.

Our Nebraska Behind Bars depth reporting team has been nationally recognized for its work investigating overcrowding and understaffing at the state's nine prisons.
Most recently, Livia Ziskey's story won first place in the Hearst Investigative Competition, qualifying her for the National Writing Championship in San Francisco this June, and Grace Lewis won the Investigative Reporters & Editors Student Individual Award and seventh place in the Hearst Investigative Competition for her work on the project.

On April 2, 1985, the School of Journalism became the College of Journalism; in the early 90's, we added "Mass Communications" to our name, and today we celebrate 41 years of the College of Journalism and Mass Communications. Here's to many more!
