Last year while in FL, my grandmother's friend needed a ride to Dillard's. She was having a party to celebrate her birthday and wanted to look extra special.
She's blind, in a wheelchair, but was going to be accompanied by 2 caregivers.
I picked them up, we went to the mall, and I helped her pick out a couple pairs of shoes, a handbag, and an outfit. She offered me gas money when I dropped them off, but I politely declined.
Two days later, my grandmother and I, along with church members, family, and friends celebrated her birthday and a week later, she had flown back home to Maryland.
She and my grandmother speak frequently and each time they speak, she asks about me and mentions how kind I was. In fact, I spoke to my grandmother a couple of days ago, and without fail, she said, "I spoke to Inez and she asked for you."
I say all of this to say (and per Maya Angelou), people may forget what you say to them or what you did for them, but they never forget how you made them feel.
In all that you do, be sure that your experience with others leaves a positive and lasting impression and I hope this message resonates with anyone who manages employees!
