What Does a Masterpiece Look Like? He stares in wonder at the hand print left behind on the paper. A two year-old clapping with her teacher at her success on the potty squealing, “I did it!” Enjoying the soft sand between their fingers as they pour and scoop, little ones laugh with one another. Preschoolers baking imaginary cookies, learning to work together with their friends and offering their homemade treats to their teacher. Young readers beaming with pride as they point to the words in the book “Green Eggs and Ham.” Children racing, jumping, climbing, and swinging on the playground discovering all the amazing ways they can move their body. Philosopher John Locke believed children's minds were a “tabula rasa” or blank slate. Think of their mind as a canvas; the parents, teachers, and community are all members of an Artist Collective. This collective works to create a beautiful masterpiece. For their part, our teachers are equipped with a colorful palette of creative academic, social- emotional, and physical experiences to add to the canvas. Each contribution helps lay the foundation for the child’s success. Every child enters a primed canvas, and leaves a masterpiece.
