Dear ABC Chicago. I am curious why I haven't seen any reporting on the crisis Early Intervention 0-3 program is in. It is nearly shut down in our state. The state has not payed the therapists who work tirelessly day in and day out for what's now entering its third month of dead lock. Our disabled and delayed children gravely need this program. My son is 21 months old. He has cerebral palsy, and epilepsy. We work hard and have private insurance. However, we could not afford to treat with 4 therapies in home each week. Frank has been receiving physical therapy, occupational therapy, developmental therapy, and speech therapy for a year in home each once per week. With out these great therapists my son would not be where he is today. Many children may find themselves too weak to even fight off the common cold with out these services. Children could be reliant on the state for help their entire lives if they weren't given the skills to grow in strength at the peak time of 0-3 years. This program is shutting down because politicians can not reach an agreement. When are we going to hold these people accountable to completing the task of creating a budget with in a reasonable time line? Why are they still getting paid when other people working for the state are expected to go to work with no pay? Please report on this very important topic. These children need you to be their voice. Please help push for a resolution before it's too late.
