Please join us in welcoming Miss Courtney Trueman to Libertyville District 70 and Highland Middle School! She will be joining our team as a school social worker.

Courtney comes to us from Indiana University, where she earned her Bachelor of Social Work and is continuing her graduate studies with a specialization in school social work. Through her internships, she has already gained valuable experience supporting students in grades 4-8 with individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, and social-emotional learning.

What stood out most during the hiring process was Courtney’s energy, positivity, and natural ability to connect with others. It is clear she will build strong, supportive relationships with our students and be a wonderful addition to the Highland community.

We’re excited to have Courtney join our team and know she’ll make a positive impact. Please join us in giving her a warm D70 welcome!

A great start to New Staff Orientation!

District 70 was excited to welcome its newest staff members as they prepare for the 2026–2027 school year! The first day of orientation focused on providing new staff with the information, resources, and support they need to start the year with confidence.

Superintendent Rebecca Jenkins kicked off the day with a warm welcome, followed by helpful information from Chris Vipond, Director of Technology, and Austin Johnson, Director of Safety. The Human Resources and Business Office teams also shared important guidance on roles, benefits, payroll, and other essential resources.

Thank you to everyone who helped make the first day a success, and a special welcome to the newest members of the D70 community. We’re excited for a great year ahead!

A new school year means new opportunities. Before students return to the halls, Highland Middle School Principal Dr. Jonathan R. Hallmark has a message for our school community.

"I'm looking forward to welcoming our students and staff back and beginning a new year together. I'm especially excited to strengthen the relationships that make Highland such a caring and connected community. I hope this year is marked by consistency, kindness, and a strong sense of belonging for everyone. Most of all, I'm looking forward to seeing our students grow, gain confidence, and experience the joy of being part of Highland."

Creativity is taking shape one strand at a time! 🧶

Students in Miss Bernard's Yarn Art class are exploring a variety of weaving techniques as they create colorful, one-of-a-kind projects. Through each new pattern and design, they're building patience, creativity, and fine motor skills while expressing their unique artistic style.

Summer learning is filled with imagination, exploration, and opportunities to create something new every day.

Math is even more fun when it feels like a game! ➕

Students in Mrs. Vuckovic's Marvelous Math Games class put their problem-solving skills to the test by using pattern blocks to create faces with different values. In this challenge, they successfully built a 40 Face by combining shapes and applying their understanding of mathematical values.

Hands-on activities like these help students strengthen critical thinking, collaboration, and math skills while having fun along the way!

Kahoot! + drama class = a great way to start the day!

D70 teacher Max Dolinko kicked off the Summer Program's Drama class with a lively game of Kahoot!, a game-based learning platform that encourages participation, collaboration, and a little friendly competition. Students were engaged from the start as they put their knowledge to the test and got ready for another creative day in class.
